Sounds like a solid guard that will provide leadership and a scoring punch for the team. He was named a team captain as a sophomore which is impressive.

He is listed as 6ft tall 182 pounds, so a smaller option to go along with the Cards taller guards next season. He only shot around 30% from 3 though.

And, obviously, this pick up confirms at least one player isn't returning. I wonder if the VJ announcement ties into this?

University of Louisville basketball coach Chis Mack and his staff picked up some good news on Thursday morning.

Lamarr 'Fresh' Kimble, who was a three-year captain at St. Joseph’s, announced that he would attend U of L as a graduate transfer. It’s the second straight years that Mack has taken a point guard as a grad transfer, following Christen Cunningham from last season.

Kimble, a Philadelphia native, averaged 15.6 points and 2.8 assists per game for St. Joe's and was the only player in school history to serve as team captain for three years. He missed all but one game in the 2017-18 season with a foot injury and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Mack and assistant coach Luke Murray had been in contact with Kimble in recent weeks.

Here’s a Q&A that Jody Demling had with Kimble:

CA: So, this was a fast process. How did the Louisville interest get started?

Kimble: “Once I enter the transfer portal, coach Mack reached out and coach Murray reached out and even coach Dino called. Those guys have been in contact with me and with. My family and show the utmost respect and love and appreciation for my game. I really appreciated the way they handled the whole thing.”

CA: You had a visit scheduled for later in the month. What made you decide to go ahead and commit?

Kimble: “The way the coaches were handling it. The stability that they showing me by being in contact with me and with my parents. They were telling me they wanted me and that it would not be easy and I’d have to work for everything. When you hear that from a program like Louisville and a coach like Chris Mack, I didn’t want to wait. I wanted him to know that I was two-feet in for what we are trying to do next year and that’s win championships, the ACC and the national championship.”

CA: Do you think it surprised coach Mack working out this fast?

Kimble: “I don’t know, he just told me he loved it. But he said to let him call his coaches and fill them in and then he called me back and was excited. And then we got to business about what he wanted me to improve on for next year.”

CA: Will you still make that visit?

Kimble: “Yes, I will be there in late April. I can’t wait to get there and see the campus.”

CA: Now you did have a previous connection with Louisville correct?

Kimble: “Yes, I played for Team Final (in AAU) and was coached by Pervis Ellison. I knew that connection with Louisville from him and I knew what he did down there. We actually visited campus when I was younger, but I know a lot has changed.”

CA: Is Louisville a team you have watched play a lot?

Kimble: “They’re a team I watch on my television every night that I can watch them. I saw them play a lot. I was watching when they had Duke down by 22 and when they won at Virginia Tech and stuff like that. I love that style of play. During this process, I’ve watched a few more of their games and have seen things that (Christen) Cunningham did out there on the floor. I’m excited about it.”

CA: This seems like a perfect spot for you? They are looking for a point guard and it’s a style you should fit well into? Do you agree?

Kimble: “Absolutely, that’s the way I felt and the reason I jumped up on it. There’s no time for me to wait, I just wanted to try and help build on what we are trying to do. They need a point guard and the way they has recruited me and showed me they wanted me made it that much easier for me from a personal standpoint.”

CA: What do you bring on the court?

Kimble: "I'm a winner and that's first and foremost. It's a great situation for me because we can win championships next season, not just ACC but a national championship. That’s one of the biggest reasons for me to come here. On the court, I move the ball, I’m unselfish and try to get people around me better. I try to look at myself as a balanced player.”

CA: I have to ask about the nickname ‘Fresh’?

Kimble: “It’s a childhood nickname. It was given to me by older people in the neighborhood and it just stuck with me. Now, it’s what I go by. Not too many people, other than professors, call me Lamarr.”

CA: Last thing, what is your major and what are your plans?

Kimble: Communications and I will be getting my masters in the sports administration program. I want to get into that lane and I’ve heard it’s a great program.”

I don’t know. They way his interview reads it sounds like the coaching staff want him to play some PG. That might not bode well for a certain player with the initials DP. We already have a couple of shooting guards coming in.

I don't know, we need 2-3 point guards, and the other guards on the roster seem to be 2s with Johnson spending some time at the point. There should be plenty of playing time for DP.

He also had significant injuries every year.
