sorry for two updates in one day, but I thought this one was significant. We are "working the fine details of a contract" with someone. No, I am not sure who it is, but I do not think it is Petersen. I was told to "expect the new coach to be recruiting by Tuesday" and that "most fans and players will be pleased"

I believe its him for reasons no one really cares about. I truly believe it was him from the start. He will help tremendously in recruiting. JMO

They say given enough time, a room full of monkeys with typewriters will eventually hammer out the works of Shakespeare. The collective of sixpackers have predicted everything from Rick Comegy to Pete Carroll. I am sure no matter what happens, somebody here has already predicted it.

I heard friday (during the excitement of possible CP) that we had our man, that it was not CP, everyone would be very excited, likely would be ironed out by tuesday. I have been a little confused because I couldn't think of anyone that everyone would be thrilled with except CP. I can think of several others that would make most of us happy, but not everyone very excited. I don't know, may have all been ********. edit to add - vague prediction that almost anyone could make with no knowledge and have a good chance of being right

...if it's Wilson, I'm sure he will leave...coaches leave before bowl games every year. That should be a prerequisite of the job...willingness to start right away.

We let Croom stay in Green Bay when he was hired and that was a mistake. Hopefully we won't make the same mistake twice.

do OC's typically stay on for the bowl game if they are hired as HC at another school? I assumed if we hired a coach he would come when announced - I thought it was 17ing lame that croom did not come when announced

Croom didn't take our job nearly serious enough. Heck, the man wasn't even a coordinator, he was a stinking RB coach. In fact, based on our offenses performances, GB would have been better off if he had left early as well.

I was about to say the same thing. pelini stuck around until the championship game last year. Leaving before a bowl game is probably a little easier for a coach to do than leaving before the national championship game

...I had forgotten about Pelini, but I would rather have a guy in here day one versus sticking around for a bowl game. Maybe it's less of a deal with Byrne able to recruit, but we need someone to hit the ground running....especially if it ends up being a coordinator with no HC experience.

One thing you have to keep in mind is the dead period. It starts very close to Christmas, and runs through the Monday after the last bowl game. A big difference with Pelini and Nebraska is if MSU is recruiting the **** out of a player all year, but a school like Nebraska just goes in and pops that scholly in front of the kid he is likly gone to Nebraska. So if we hire an OC playing for the NC that is great, but he better damn sure be recruiting while he is game planning.
