Sorry for taking so long for the update but it has been such a whirlwind this past couple of months. Chemo treatments have been working but not as good as they had hoped. Cancer is still present in her bone marrow and we are now starting the process of looking for a donor for a bone marrow transplant. If a donor will be found, she will be transferred from Children's to UNMC for the procedure. Continued prayers is much appreciated from our family!!

Thanks for posting. Can I ask a question? How does one go about finding a marrow donor? Does everyone have different marrow like blood? Or is it a case of finding somebody just willing to donate theirs? Oh, andi'll shoot a prayer your way!!!

UNMC is in the process of sending us a swab kit for our family to test. I don't know all of the details yet but it sounds like we have to swab the inside of our mouth in the cheek region like a DNA test. She has a greater chance of finding a match with a family member first and if that doesn't work, we then try extended family. If that doesn't work I believe it goes out to a national database. If we're fortunate to find a match and go with the procedure, she will be at UNMC anywhere from 30-100 days. Not the way a teenage girl wants to spend her Junior year of school. :(

Thank you for the update and prayers are offered. As a word of encouragement - a friend was in very difficult condition about three years at this same time. The did the bone marrow transplant from a family member. Fast forward to now and he is back at work. It was not an easy journey and their faith was tested.

It really tugs at all emotions and relationships in the entire family. So blessed to be part of such a caring and supporting community.

Let us know if you don't find a donor. I'm sure many of us would swab our cheek for the cause. Prayers to your family.
