Marian Catholic next week and the fun starts.
A solid Benet team, a hot date in Joliet, a very good Marist team and a game to heal before the playoffs.
8-1, 7-2, 6-3 or 5-4 ..... where do they finish?

Third, WRT the field, I have NO problem with a grass field that is constructed in a way to perform and that is maintained. The field at MCC was neither, the grass was long which I can certainly understand and live with but before the game was even started you could hardly see most of the OB lines, none of the Hash marks, and the yard markers were very light. If you don't have a field that can shed water with proper drainage for play and safety it should either be reengineered to do so or be replaced with turf. I've often said there are few schools who can truly afford to have a grass field...MCC it's time for turf, it's far more cost effective over the long haul and brings safety and playability across all your sports...this field is trashed for the remainder of the season.

Both teams had to play on the same field, no? Any major injuries?

Also, this was the type of field we all played on back in the day. We survived.

Welcome to my world (at least since the mid-90's to 4 years ago) MCC is aware of the field conditions, the lighting, the fact that many of the teams have a 2 hour plus bus ride in rush hour traffic on a Friday night to get to Woodstock, the reputation (earned or not) of the refs. That is all part of the MCC experience. As far as MCC is concerned having Chicago area teams play at MCC on a Friday night at their field is a feature and not a bug.

it will be fun to see how Naz responds. Fist loss in a season and a half. Personally, I think going undefeated is overrated these days. too many good teams. that said, the tough part of naz's schedule lays ahead.

I'm equally interested in knowing how good is mcc. This victory was IMO, their most impressive: 21-14 over crystal lake south; 28-18 over mchenry; 56-16 over marian catholic.

I guess we find out next week in Joliet. Happy this game is at home for the Hill.

This pretty much nails it. After reading this thread, it's obvious MCC has a nice home field advantage. Why would they want to change anything?

I'm interested to see how this impacts the DSR relative to MCC. Will gooms rank a 4-0 MCC after they beat his #2? Will any voters rank Naz without ranking MCC above?

Naz, this is a blessing.

I like my teams going into the playoffs with a loss and not being undefeated. This way you don't have to worry about your coaches or players playing NOT TO LOSE during the game but rather play to win.

Last year's Naz team wins this game. Put simply this year's naz team not as good as last year's. We are starting to see the difference.

Yea I haven't got to see them yet, but graduating 5 OL (4 D1) and a D1 RB is going to have a big impact no matter the talent of your skill guys. Further, sounds like some of their returning DL starters are playing both ways. That's gonna have an impact as well.

All that said, no reason the goal shouldn't still be another state championship. Hopefully this is a good learning experience and we don't run into MCC in the playoffs (especially at home- any field conditions aside that is a tough place to win).

Congrats to MCC. Sounds like they took the momentum away and locked down.

My dad taught me:

Good teams beat the other team.

Very Good teams beat the other team and the conditions.

Champions beat the other team and the conditions and bad officiating.

Was it pouring rain the entire game? Where was Naz passing game? Did they attempt to get their passing game going, or just stuck with the run? I recall someone posting during the preseason that their passing game was more than adequate in the event that an opponent was able to shut down their running game.
