I would say that Petrino, Pitino, and Coach K are probably worse, but no doubt he is top 5 to top 10.

Backpeddling trying to save face for future recruits. It was exactly what I expected him to say in response to those comments. He's pretty unapologetic, but at this point why would he not be. He's not playing there, he isn't going to play there so Urban just wants to move forward and keep damage control for future recruits. Young is an anomaly in his mind.

So his fans think it was a very classy move to acknowledge that he made a very STUPID and unclassy move to start with. Just win, baby.

And the article keeps calling him a four star, LOL. Guess Urban had to admit that he made the dumb statements attributed to him, and still thinks that if you are a four star and go to UK you are an unsubstantial player going to an unsubstantial school.

What a jerk.

Personally, I think Meyer handled it well, from a PR perspective. He was in a tight place and showed some savvy.

While I appreciate how Young felt and think his gripe is legit, I wish he had taken a pass on that question.

I respect your position...but personally, I'm glad Young spoke up. The attention on him will blow over, but I think how coaches like Meyer and others handle their business in such an arrogant and negative way should be known. Especially so when it's clear they are fine with negative recruiting against UK.

I get a sense of satisfaction when the BS public facade manufactured by the coaches, schools and media are challenged by the actual truth of how guys like Meyer are clearly narcasistic as hats

I'd say Urban is going to have to ad-Meyer Landon when we are hitting it big.

Not that I'm condoning being and ***, but I would say this is pretty common place on the trail...especially at the highest of levels with the best coaches who don't have to kiss *** because the best of the best are lined up down the block to get in...

Folks, Urban Meyer can afford to be hard and direct...he's not building a bottom feeder from the ground up and desperate for talent...

OSU among other elite programs are like Harvard...they can tell the best of the best to kick rocks...

better to have a coach tell you that you're not cutting the mustard early than for him to blow smoke up your *** and then you end up not playing because you didn't hack it and/or got recruited over by someone who was even better...

he might have made the starting line up eventually at OSU, but he'll be in a position to play early and often at UK...

Well, unless Landon now calls him a liar and says that it was NOT his assistants that gave him bad treatment but Meyer himself. Probably best to leave it alone if I was the kid, but some of these holier-than-thou coaches don't like having their true selves exposed (Coach K, anyone?).

OTOH, maybe we want Meyer to be arrogant and jerk with recruits.

Since I'm in the same graduating class as Landon (we go to different HS but we're friends on Twitter) I understand where he's coming from. I have faced countless amounts of bullying and never had proof, but once I had it I ran with it. Now my bully and I are good friends. Anyways Landon must now make the decision for himself on whether to continue. If he wants he could call Urban out on his bull, and thus further ruining Urban's reputation. All his decision.

Keep in mind Landon didn't set out to punk Meyer or start anything like this. He was just reacting honestly to a question asked him by a reporter. Knowing Landon he probably had no idea and hates that it turned into this big of a fuss.

Thanks for your ringing endorsement of Young, are you the one that sent Urbie the Herbie the scouting report on him?

Right, he MIGHT have been able to play at OSU EVENTUALLY but he can play early and often at UK------

Yeah, sounds "insubstantial" to me, wonder why he even let him visit. But then we already know Dupree and Cobb weren't able to ever set a foot on their campus.

Agreed on both points. I understand thinking Meyer is a weiner, but his response wasn't bad.

take a chill pill...

I don't have to gush over a kid before his first game...when we get some SEC game film on him then we can all laugh at Urban...or not...who knows...either way Urban has rings and players scattered around the pros...Urban missing out on a talented player is about the equivalent of Warren Buffet missing out on a billion...he won't even notice...

I'm not concerned about Urban Meyer and his discussions with a recruit...

he didn't kiss the kid's butt...get over it...just because everyone on here is ready to throw him a parade doesn't mean Meyer has to give a hoot...

I think folks are quick to grab the torch and pitch fork these days...especially on here...

"weh...Urban Meyer didn't think our recruit was the greatest thing since sliced bread...weh...let's riot..."

I'm sure Urban can be a turd...I'm sure he can be very brunt...I'm sure he's said some things to recruits that are less than roses and rainbows...guess what?...it's football..."you're insubstantial" isn't the worst thing you'll here from a coach...teammates, especially older guys will have rougher language for him than that...

Just ammo for Marrow and Stoops when future ohio kids brings up OSU.

Marrow/UK's recruiting success in Ohio is getting on Meyers nerves.

It wasn't that Urban is not gushing over Young it's more him being an *** hole to a 17 year old kid. If Urban thought he had a chance in hell with young he would have made different comments I promise you that. You can wait until Landon makes it to gush but I've scouted football for 20 years and Landon is a first rd draft pick period. You do not see tackles Landons size athleticism and work ethic very often.

Meyer is the perfect coach for the most arrogant and pompous fanbase in the country. The only coach that is more phony than him is coach K. I can't stand to even cross the river into buckeye land. Most annoying people on the planet.

Never gave Meyers much thought at his capability at being a developer of young men but admired his accomplishments.
Some how, he thinks that in the state of Ohio, any kid would crawl to play for him at OSU just BC the kid was born in Ohio. There are too many of them. He still thinks at anytime he can sign ANYONE he chooses. Not True.
Marrow will be the reason he takes another temp retirement. (During his temporary retirement in 2011, he worked as a college football analyst for the television sports network ESPN)
[maybe not, but UK recruiting in Ohio is affecting Meyers recruiting efforts.]

If in the next 4 years, all the planets and moons align, Young from an insubstantial school will play against OSU and Win. (that's karma) For Young, it will be a glorious day. (Yes I know it will only happen if UK gets to a playoff)

You write a dumb post agreeing with him and also trashing our players and program, and you follow it up with this.

You are really on a roll.

Urban wasn't happy with his staff over the way they handled Landon Young's recruitment... Urban feels real sorry about that...

He didn't say the OL coach was a a jerk or had something to say out the side of his mouth. He didn't say his lead recruiter was a jerk or had something to say out the side of his mouth. Landon said Urban was the piece of trash, not the recruiter. Urban's trying to Shaggy people with this "It wasn't me" nonsense.

LOL...You do realize you just described above what 95% of America thinks of the UK basketball fan base? This is why UK fans hate OSU fans and vice versa because they're the same, just different states and team colors!

Stay on your side of the river...That's one less slow Kentucky driver in the left lane pissing me off!

Then stay on your board and off ours if you have a problem with people who live 5 miles away. I love how every time I see someone from Ohio on this board they get uppity about something. No wonder that state produces **** for talent outside sports... they all think they're already great.

nowhere do I trash anyone...if you read you would see that I acknowledge that Urban is probably a turd and that he may very well be missing out...

long story short...everyone needs to relax and get over it...

this tribalism on here can get out of control sometimes...any time there is some sort of position taken against the family it's to the mattresses...that's fine when something outlandish occurs...but this isn't that type of situation...

Coaches can be brunt...as I said before it is common place...

If you think CMS hasn't had some hard talk with a kid before on the trail you're wrong...If you think Coach Cal hasn't told a kid something similar you're wrong...

Please. The only drivers who STAY in the left lane 10mph UNDER the speed limit and won't get over are buckeyes. Worst drivers in the country.

Crickets...

Did he say that Meyer didn't make those stupid and derogatory statements?

Oh, and thanks for reinforcing the stereotype of the arrogant OSU football fan.

Honest and frank or arrogant and stupid? Whose image do you think suffered more from this, I actually admire Young for standing up to someone that powerful, I wonder how many consultants Meyer went to in order to come up with his statement, and how much pressure did he have to do so.

To me it is obvious he didn't find the right one.

Well, since OSU has the #1 current recruiting class right now and will more than likely end up with 5-6 5* players this year I'm thinking Meyer and OSU will not suffer from this!
