I have no doubt he'll be cleared, but if the criteria is a performance so bad by a given player it can't be explained by normal means, they'll have to take a look at Reed Sheppard's game against Oakland.

Anybody bold enough to take Oakland to win straight up in that game made a fortune.

Let's hope the person behind the prosecution is trying to make a name for themselves. That is the only way anything meaningful will come from this.

Actually, legalizing sports wagering will cut down on fixed games. Everything is monitored so closely now, that any unusual betting activity, is immediately red flagged.

I agree but it's probably a moot point since, for a long time now, it's way more lucrative to win games than to throw them. Referees, on the other hand...

Not sure I buy this. Making gambling more widespread encourages more cheating, not less.

All gambling isn’t done in one place. Yes, the individual sites are monitoring for cheating, but does that mean they are necessarily notifying authorities (assuming authorities will act appropriately)?

There is also still plenty of illegal gambling, and millions of reasons for crooks to conceal their nefarious efforts.

I think with college players getting paid, and the increased scrutiny on unusual betting patterns getting red flagged, it will lessen the fixing of games.

I think we would be shocked at how many players and refs have gotten away with fixing games for decades. it will still go on, but it will be caught more times than not now. And players that get caught, will get banned, and made examples of to guys that think about doing it.

Just my opinion.

I would prefer that you’re right, but I guess I’m cynical on the subject.
