Football was invented so we would never have to hear about/watch the snoozefest known as soccer any more on this continent.

I was a soccer hater for the first twenty years of my life. Had never watched more than a few minutes of it, had never played a game of it, but would tell anyone I met that soccer was a dumb, boring sport. Then I watched a match and thought, hm, this isn't so bad. So I watched another one. I've been addicted since then.

Besides, it's summertime on a college sports board. We're gonna need something to talk about. Those of us soccer fans can talk about the biggest sporting event in the world while we wait for football to kick off in the fall, or we can list our favorite MSU plays ever for the fiftieth time this year. And the nice thing is, if you don't like soccer, it's easy to scroll past the threads.

I just don't see how someone can hate it so much. I gurantee that 90% of the people bitching in this thread have never watched more than a handful of World Cup matches. They are in tents. I could see how someone might not like watching a regular season MLS match or something, but the World Cup is completely different. If you are a so called "sports nut" then you will enjoy the World Cup.

are commented on about how much it sucks as a sport. 80% soccer threads have it. It's ridiculous. Just don't comment. I hate baseball with a passion but I don't comment on every thread.

Bradley starts Onyewu and plays him long enough to dryhump Rooney until he injures his limey ***. Then he takes him out and lets someone in shape play.

If we don't go with that genius coaching move, I hate to say it but I think we lose 2-1 or 3-1. If we put Dempsey on the attack I think we will net one.

Do we know what formation Bradley is planning on using?

I think England takes it 2-1. Our defence just has not looked very crisp at all since the spain game. I just hope we beat Slovenia. Everything I've heard about them says they are a tough as nails team that could give us fits to advance. I feel fairly confident about beating Algeria though.

Next, to the people who are bashing soccer, please just watch a game or 2 of the world cup (preferrably Spain or Brazil). You will see some pretty amazing things. I can definitely see how you can think soccer is boring by flipping to a random game and watching five minutes of kicking a ball around in what seems to be an aimless manner. But if you really watch a game and see all the buildup and the skill that people have on the ball, it is actually very entertaining. There is a reason that every country in the world except for us lives and breathes soccer.

Finally, to the people who are complaining about the people bashing soccer, just let them go. Ive been on this board long enough to realize that most people on here live to piss people off. And if they see that they are getting under your skin, then they will continue to screw with you. The best thing to do is just let it go. If they stop having fun with it because they arent upsetting anybody, then they will probably stop caring. Just my opinion.

By the way, I just thought of seeing this a few months ago and thought I'd post. This isnt to bash American football because I love watchng football and Im a bigger fooball fan than soccer fan. This is just for the people that say how boring and non acton packed a soccer game is. Just think of this next time you sit down to watch a football game.

That is what Marie Antoinette is reputed to have said during the French Revolution about poor people.

11 minutes. Wow. I can really see why American football isn't popular in other countries due to people feeling it's "too slow."

I was thinking it was some English queen for some reason. Probably those old Fig Newton commercials ("Let them eat fat-free fruit and cake")
