and they dont have beef to grind it out with an SEC defense. Keep in mind, they lost, got blown out by ole miss last year. I think Dooley will have them competitive before he leaves for a better gig, just not yet. That said, of course Im worried, we lost to Maine!

for if there was any chance of overlooking them, I'm sure Sly probably put a copy of this in everybody's locker. I hope everybody keeps singing how great he is until kickoff.

I wouldn't say we blew them out last year.

First off, the score was only 17-0 in the 4th quarter when we blocked a FG and returned it for a TD to make it 24-0 with about 2 minutes to go.

On top of that, Total offense from the game looked like this:
La. Tech - 301 yards
Ole Miss - 232 yards

Granted, we weren't a great team, but the 24-0 score made the game look worse than it actually was. La. Tech was competitive in the game. They just failed to capitalize when they had chances. They got the ball inside our 40 yard line 6 times and never managed to score. Conversely, we only got the ball inside their 40 yard line 4 times resulting in 2 TDs, a FG, and an INT. You shouldn't have any trouble with them. However, they definitely seem to have this one circled, which always makes it dangerous.

and they were a big play away from making it a close game in the 4th quarter. And this team is better than GW and they are at home. We simply dont have the offense to run away from anyone, and Tech is improved from last year. I'll be shocked if we lose, but to act we are going to beat this bunch 3 TD's is being a little too wooly.

The question was if we were worried about an upset, not whether we'll blow LA Tech out. We probably won't score enough points to blow them out (although I do think we'll be a little better on offense than last year). But I'll be shocked if we lose.

One question though. Why will LA Tech be so much improved over last year? Just because Derrick Dooley is the son of Vince Dooley and coached on Nick Saban's staff doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a good head coach. Hell, Croom's first strength and conditioning coach coached on Saban's staff and he sucked.

We pulled a Usain Bolt and shut it down in the second half after going up 28-0, pulling a bunch of starters. Nice spin, though. Way to turn a 16 point win into a moral loss.

a big play away from making it a close game in the 4th quarter
You could say that about most of our losses (UT, Ark, USC).

...we destroy them early and often. By the 4th Q we will have 3d stringers in. and still win by 20 or more.

LA Tech > GW

everyone keeps using this Garner Webb analogy , but GW is a Div1-AA school and LA Tech is a WAC school that has produced two BCS teams the past 2 years in Boise St and Hawaii. We are also playing away which is always scary. Please quit using GW as an analaogy

If you look at their depth chart, they match up very well with us. Superior talent doesn't mean very much. Some people would say that Auburn had more talent than us last year, but we still won.

I think this game comes down to execution. The team that wins will be the team that makes the plays. The team that does the little things well and doesn't make mistakes will be the team that wins this game.

I don't see how you can determine how well they match up with us by taking a glance at their depth chart, though.

I see a defense that was bad last year with a lot of new starters. And an offense that doesn't scare me. They'll be breaking in a new QB (whether it's the GA Tech transfer or one of last year's backups). Their best player is their running back, and our defense has a history of doing well against "good" running backs from inferior leagues. And the WAC is an inferior league. People read way too much into the "it produced 2 BCS bowl teams in the past 2 years" argument. Boise St. played against a very mediocre Oklahoma team and Hawaii was Georgia's biggest blowout of the season. Here's a list of the teams LA Tech beat last year: Central Arkansas, New Mexico St., Utah St., Idaho, San Jose St. I don't see them adding Mississippi St. to the list this year.
