This is State's fifth trip to the SECT finals. It's UT's 10th.

State has won two titles. UT has won four, the most recent of which was 1979.

1933 Kentucky 46, Mississippi State 27
1996 Mississippi State 84, Kentucky 73
2002 Mississippi State 61, Alabama 58
2003 Kentucky 64, Mississippi State 57

1936 Tennessee 29, Alabama 25
1937 Kentucky 39, Tennessee 25
1939 Kentucky 46, Tennessee 38
1941 Tennessee 36, Kentucky 33
1943 Tennessee 33, Kentucky 30
1945 Kentucky 39, Tennessee 35
1950 Kentucky 95, Tennessee 58
1979 Tennessee 75, Kentucky 69 (OT)
1991 Alabama 88, Tennessee 69

Since the tournament renewed in 1979, State trails only UK in finals winning percentage.
Kentucky (18) 13-5 .722
Mississippi State (3) 2-1 .667
Alabama (10) 5-5 .500
Florida (6) 3-3 .500
Tennessee (2) 1-1 .500
Auburn (3) 1-2 .333
LSU (3) 1-2 .333
Ole Miss (3) 1-2 .333
Arkansas (4) 1-3 .250
Georgia (4) 1-3 .250
South Carolina (2) 0-2 .000
Vanderbilt (0) 0-0 .000

All time we are 2-6 vs UT in the SEC tournament.
They beat us in the first round in 38 , 41, 48, and 49.
The beat us in the second round in 42 and 91 (when we were the 1 seed).
We beat them in the first round in 94 in Richard W's first ever SEC tournament win. UT was horrible. We beat them by 4 then lost to UK by 19.
We beat them by four (again) in the second round in 1999 then lost to Ark in the semis in OT.

This is the first SECT in which UT has won two game since 1991, when they were last in the conference and ended up in the finals.

UT's last player on the All Tourney team was Steve Hamer in 96.
Ours were Zimmerman and Bowers in 2003.

When Raycom was doing its look at great tourney finals, the network was focusing on buzzer beaters beaters, so the trememdous 1996 Bulldog victory over Kentucky (eventual NCAA champ) was passed over. I think it was one of the greatest games ever.

When's the last time you heard Tom Hammond or Fishback or Joe Dean call us the Rebels? ESPN does it weekly.

Their football coverage was atrocious. However, I always thought they did a very good job with basketball. Tom Hammond even regularly calls us "State", which I love.
