So all the USM fans are boycotting Sweet Peppers, eh?

That should free up a couple of tables.

What are they mad at Sweet Peppers about? I saw something in that forum about them slighting the USM baseball team but no details.

1. They did not support a tax hike that would've went towards the USM football stadium because it was already at 9%
2. They didn't put a sign outside the restaurant about their 2008 College World Series visit. Oh the horror!

Those are the only 2 I know

Meh.... Businesses in Hattiesburg could survive without USM fan support. Half the folks that go to USM are fans of other schools athletic programs anyway. USM needs Hattiesburg more than Hattiesburg needs USM.

Their stadium would have used public money? Screw that. The ten of them can save up their nickels and dimes and buy their own stadium.

Hattiesburg might just be the best restaurant town in Mississippi as far as having a good variety of dining establishments are concerned. When I'm visiting family and friends in the Hub City and want to get something to eat, going to Sweet Peppers has never crossed my mind.

(Incidentally, Sweet Peppers hasn't impressed me that much. The sandwiches are okay. Desserts are they do best.)

Thanks for supporting!

Maroon! We always appreciate your support. Heaven forbid that The Depot Bistro and Keg and Barrel are exposed for supporting other
peeps than the USM clan. I can assure you when MSU visits the Burg, that I will make The Depot a MSU headquarters. Also, Keg and Barrel is
always ready to welcome the opposing team crowds. Any dawgs passing through the Burg at any time, please drop by (www.thedepotbistro.com)
I'm in USM land but a dawg at heart. Also tried to email someone on here to advertise a couple years ago, but response was snarky- still interested.
I ignore the slams on Hattiesburg, as I realize its not Narnia. That said, there's a bulldog shelter here to whomever is interested.

I've been trying to get over there for what seems like over a year now. I've heard nothing but great things.

I live out west of Hattiesburg on 98. I love living in the Oak Grove area. I've been all over the state and I'm happy right where I am. Of course, I wouldn't want to live near downtown H'burg but the people that slam Hattiesburg probably don't know much about it. Like others have said, the restaurant choices are great. Gander Mountain, Academy, Dick's, all within 5-8 miles from my neighborhood which is outside city limits.

I think some of the people slamming Hattiesburg haven't been there in a while. Hattiesburg has seen an explosion of retail and restaurants on Hwy 98 West in the past 10 years. Starkville has some good stuff in terms of restaurants too, but not compared to what Hattiesburg has now.

Until recently, Hattiesburg was a much better college town than either.....

...Starkville or Oxford, in terms of stuff to do besides football game weekends. USM students didn't have to worry about Hattiesburg rolling up the streets and closing down after 6 P.M., plus New Orleans and the Coast were easy driving distance..

I went to USM for one semester. I never could figure out why USM has so many problems gaining fan support. It is actually a decent city and close proximity to the Coast and Jackson are a plus. I always wondered what would could have been had MSU popped up in Hattisburg. An SEC school in South MS could have been huge!

Growing up, I lived all over the state

and you can do MUCH worse than Hattiesburg.
And the USM fans on that thread don't seem so much mad at Peppers than just pissed off at life in general. I guess losing 14 games in a row will do that to you (but they're holding up okay at Arkansas right now).

I do as well and I love it. I get to go to the coast at least once a week to do some fishing and there are some great restaurants as well. Considering where I manage at I've probably interacted with most of the Hattiesburg posters on this board.

I've only eaten there once but can definitely recommend The Depot. I love John's Chicken and Waffles when I'm at Keg and Barrel.
