4 of the 12 fans believe USM warrants an invite.

<h4></h4>
<h4><span style="font-weight: normal;">I
understand that I will get blasted for saying this but why are we not
discussing USM as the 14th member of the SEC? They would be competitive
in football, in the top half in baseball, and nobody gives a crap about
SEC bball outside of Kentucky. The other non-revenue sports would fit
right in with every other school in the SEC.</span>
</h4><div class="messagebody">The geographic
footprint makes perfect sense. They have the facilities that are
already within reach of SEC standard or have the capacity for that kind
of improvement.

And don't tell me that usm couldn't compete in
recruiting bc you can't measure the impact that SEC revenue sharing
would have on a school as close to big time as usm can be on recruiting.
</div>
<div class="messagebody"></div>
I understand the argument about a 3 team state and fans...however

It works for the ACC and the artist formerly known as the big 12
if USM was to join the SEC, it wouldn't take long for them to pass up
state or Ole Miss in athletics. The only advantage they have over USM
is the SEC. Hattiesburg has way more to offer compared to Oxford or
Starkville. They are already competitive in recruiting against them. In
the end they do lose out on the best recruits but if all were in the
SEC, I see USM out recruiting both state and ole miss in all sports.

As for the last quote, I wanted to point out that this was within the week that we blasted Memphis and were ranked #19 or so.

Edited to say that a lot of you 17tards didn't get that this was a joke on how even Ole Miss/Auburn aren't even the most delusional fanbases out there.

because 3 SEC teams in the state of Mississippi would be even more a disaster than 2 SEC teams in the state of Mississippi.

ETA: The only states (in the southeast) that are capable of supporting 3 SEC teams are Florida and Texas.

The great thing for USM fans is that they so rarely play SEC teams they can delude themselves into thinking they'd be competitive in the SEC despite their inability to even win C-USA. Ole Miss went 4-8 last year, and we would have at least played in the C-USA championship game.

The SEC is not real crazy about having the 2 Mississippi teams already in the league. They aren't about to even entertain admitting a third.

in this thread but I have to address the line about Hattiesburg being so desireable. Hattiesburg is Joneboro Ark with even more rednecks. Hattiesburg's growth is due to it being the only center of commerce for a starved geographic region and the fact there is very few other 4 year education opportunites around. I guess, you can sum it up by saying it's a town..but it's so far from being a college town it's pitiful.

i live in oak grove. hatty is not a great 'college town'. if you enjoy having one main road that thousands try to navigate during all times of the day desirable then yeah, it's fantastic. i take lincoln rd everywhere i go. have no idea why these stupid people don't realize it's much faster and runs parallel to hardy. plus the food here sucks as far as original restaurants. for a good sized city you would think there would be plenty. nope. robert st john has a couple good ones and walnut circle. only 1 or 2 good watering holes also

spent 8 and a half in starkville. i was quite the scholar.

both towns have a lot of good points that the other doesnt have.

both have their own brand of rednecks.

since living here, ive met 7 Southern Miss fansand 1 Mississippi State fan. i dont think he actually went to State, though.

ok this is an exaggeration, but the truth is,people here have a loosely-knit, community-college level sense of pride in "the golden eagles".

not many people here can have conversation about any school north of highway 84, and i miss that.

i do love the town. ive never lived in a more laid-back, friendly place. and i hear its chock-full of lesbians!

My favorite part is that they say that they'd get ALL these new fans from Hattiesburg itself. More people sit in the Junction or the Grove during the actual MSU/OM games than even enter the vicinity of Hattiesburg during the entire football weekend when USM is playing at home.

Somehow they'd also be competitive in football and in the top half in baseball. Don't worry about the SEC being just as brutal in baseball as it is in football, they'd come right in and dominate...

I'd love to see USM play an SEC schedule for just one year in all sports. They'd win perhaps 1 game in football while getting vintage raped all over the field 90% of the time. Their basketball team would probably quit halfway through the season due to literally having zero fans in the stands. And their baseball team wouldn't even sniff Hoover. Sure the baseball team plays some decent teams, but one Rice and, well lately no one else, does not equal UF, LSU, Bama, USCe, MSU and then OM in consecutive weekends.

Could have fooled me... There are several high schools in this state that have better facilities than USM, and one of them is in their own town.

but i'm from the hat area so it's kind of like home. i have lot's of friends here and i've known the place since i was a kid. the one thing i didn't like about stark was it was either stay home or go to a bar. being down here i have other things to keep me occupied like being able to fish or scuba in the gulf with a hours drive. both places have there pros and cons. i do miss starkville at times but i enjoy south mississippi, not necessarily hat. and for the delusional fans, i'm use to it. i've heard about their sec caliber team since i was a child. and crescent city/mohogany bar is fantastic. the shed's not shabby either.

Since I'm from the Hattiesburg area as well, I know a good bit of what you speak. For a "college" town, you'd think that they'd have a more diverse selection but it's not nearly as good as it could be. The few that I do tend to keep on my list are Mexican Kitchen, Brown Stones, Crescent City and Old Athens.

That board needs a huge, Gong Show-esqe mechanical gorilla paw to come out and pull those posters off the stage.
