The whole idea of a 3-5-2 was a horrible idea as well. A week to learn that system and spacing? Italians spend their entire lives learning that system...plus you gotta have 3 CB that are world class and we don't have anyone that can really play a good wingback

Also, you're defending a corner with 2 minutes to go in the game....why was no one on both posts? I firmly believe if we start the game in the 4-4-2, and start Kljestan, we win.

I wouldn't mind getting a coach with a south American background, and a philosophy based more on counterattacking... Right now under Klinsmann he is trying to essentially play like a euro team does, but that require a massive surplus of skill and creativity, which we do not have

USMNT and Klinsmann have done themselves no favors in these first 2 matches.... with out a doubt, basically been hot garbage for all but maybe 20-30 minutes.

But theres still a LONG way to go before real concern about not qualifying.

That said, I think making a coaching change before the next round of matches in March, is almost a necessity as whatever the Klinsmann's message is, it has been thoroughly tuned out..

With the HEX and CONCACAF being the easiest group to qualify out of, winning the games they "should" win the rest of the way probably gets them through....or at least to the 1 game qualifier with the Asian 5th place team.

Hell, Mexico made it in 2014 winning only 2 matches out of the 10, so no white flags just yet..

I admittedly know very little about international soccer (or the sport overall). So, can anyone name some people who would be good options for the USMNT to hire if they do actually move on from Klinsmann?

Bob Bradley?

Lordy, don't need Michael to be even more empowered and entitled by having his dad coach the team...again.

But recycling coaches must be the thing, saw Bruce Arena's name flying around in some articles / blogs today.

I don't know that is really the case with Klinsmann, at least to the extent you seem to know what it is he's attempting. I don't think he knows from one minute to the next what he wants. You tinker in friendlies, his mindset going into the Mexican matchup was an unmitigated disaster and went counter to every single tactical formation used for a full year; only playing Besler at a LB to get Johnson forward had been seen back in CopaAmerica. 4-4-2 had been used with success throughout 2016. Everything else was winging it.

Lack of homegrown talent, doesn't matter who takes the reigns.

Just popped up on my phone that Arena will be taking over.

If he is taking over as national coach, can he keep coaching LA?

55-27-16....wow. You can't fire him for that. We don't really deserve Jurgen. We deserve Bruce Arena and playing the sad underdog just waiting for a miracle. That's more fun - when you suck and you know it. I think Jurgen and his intentional pedigree had people thinking we weren't USA soccer.

And all the young talent we have is mostly because of Jurgen, right? Not that it matters short term, but if we want to be competitive 4-6 years down the road, we need to retain the little talent he brought in, and hope they pan out.

Pretty good game going right now with Toronto/Montreal in game 2 of the ECF. Toronto up 3-2 in the game (5-5 overall). About 15 to play.

Looks like a great atmosphere in Toronto.

Anyone watching much of the Premiere League or UCL? Looks like Chelsea may run away with it again and Barca looks tough in UCL....Looks like winning it is their sole focus.

Heck of a job by Conte at Chelsea. Took some time to get some traction, but once the players and him got on the same page they really took off. They can also win the FA Cup. Pretty impressive to win both in your first year.

Also have to note the great escape of Swansea City. Really have no idea how they did it. Last place with 12 points at the start of January when Paul Clement took over. Now safe after 26 points in the last 18 games.
