Wow man...I was telling my buddy I thought Chile could take it to Mexico...but I didn't expect this. Mexico likes to play very open...but Chile has more class and explosiveness.... I could count 10 times Alexis Sanchez just ran by multiple Mexican players....the work rate of Chile was absolutely nuts.

Me and my buddies have been talking today weighing if it would be more beneficial or detrimental for CONCACAF to merge with CONMELBOL. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. We have played our best against CONMELBOL teams so far and we didn't necessarily play bad against Colombia. I think consistently facing teams like Uruguay , Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina would do nothing but make us better.

We would get hammered on the regular.

I'm not sure man....we would still et our wins against Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and the other CONCACAF teams. If they combined there would like be a change where 8 to 9 would qualify. Your regular qualifiers would be Brazil (although they sit outside top 5 currently with the hard games ahead), Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile....that's 5....so 4 spots would be left....we have beaten Ecuador twice and Paraguay who for 80min led Brazil in WCQ and ended in a 2-2 tie. There would be 4 spots up for grabs....I'd put Mexico and US in and if we weren't the teams we would be fighting with would be Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia , Venezuela....

We may struggle at first....but in the long term it would pay huge dividends.

I doubt the rest of CONCAF would go for it. Little guys have a chance now, but wouldn't in that setup.

Well, when you watch the precision that Chile carved Mexico up with you stand in awe; Mexico has been playing well since their coaching change and I didn't at all envision a game like Saturday night with them. Their high pressure really ground Mexico up, but what was even more startling was the openness and frequency of shots on goal around the six...you don't see that very much at a high level.

...and it's sobering, because you know that Argentina can do that to you even at full strength. I suspect that means any real appearance of the newbies doesn't come until the third place game which would be against Colombia or Chile; I'd like another shot at Colombia.

I get what you are saying but like what do we have to lose playing some youth? It's not like anyone in their right mind expects us to win...why not? It's going to be our last competitive game in a big game atmosphere until 2018 Russia.

What makes Chile so good is their work rate man....they play so damn hard and they are relentless. They have 2 field players that are world class...Vidal and Sanchez...and Bravo is a great Keeper....Vargas isn't anything special...he is just hot, pacey and relentless. Chile has a ton of pace on their team.

Did we even try to appeal the straight red on Jermaine Jones? Maybe get it reduced to a yellow?

The appeal for Wood's yellow and Jermaine Jones' red were both denied today.

I'd say cautiously what you're sacrificing by going young against Argentina is humiliation on your home soil...and there is an intangible cost to that. The core has been intact through the tournament and is being forcibly changed with the suspensions (Wood really hurts because the dropoff in the frontline without him is substantial and directly impacts one of the two outright strengths of the tournament and that's Dempsey)...so I think Zusi is your right wing, Johnson is your left and you'll see Bradley played out of position at CAM and Beckerman put in to solidify the defensive core in the middle. With the way Dempsey likes to drop deep like an attacking mid it potentially sinks your mids a little deeper at the back of the middle third. If the game is still in play in the 2nd half, Nagbe on for Beckerman and a possible Pulisic sighting but I still think it's more realistic that it will be the third place game before we see him.

I just think Argentina is just going to be way too much. Has anyone heard if Di Maria is going to be back? I never heard what his injury was or how serious. If Argentina come out with a front 3 of Di Maria, Higuain and Messi.... I just see no way we can handle that.... and Gaitan isnt much better for Di Maria either....

I just hope we dont get blown out.... The only weakness I saw was sometimes there can be space between the two CB.... Maybe Dempsey can exploit that for us.... other than that I see no hope lol.

Man we are no absolute guarantee to make it out of CONCACAF, let alone CONMEBOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we have only beaten Mexico like ZERO times in Mexico when it was a WC qualifier. I can assure you, just about every South American team will have a similar record at home against us. They will have a much better chance of picking us off in the USA than we will of beating them at their place. I think that will absolutely send us backwards when we don't make 2 or 3 WC's in a row.

Just my opinion, but we are in the best possible place to make the World Cup, and to win a couple of games there, which is the best we can ever expect from our country.

And also, CONMEBOL will give our boys more chances to catch the ZIKA!!!

There's been talk of combining Copa America and the Gold Cup which would be great. I am unaware of talk of combining the confederations. That would make no sense because of the size of the two continents. And it would be absolutely boneheaded for the US to support such an idea.

You may have been implying this by saying no relief in Gaitan for DiMaria, but Gaitan is out for yellow accumulation.

Well thats good. Is Di Maria going to be fit? The crazy thing is they still bring a solid player off the bench if both cant go in Javier Pastore.

I read something where some people think Argentina may change formation if Di Maria cannot go to a 4-1-2-1-2 Diamond...with this personnel:

Kun Aguero, Higuain
Messi
Biglia, Banega
Mascherano
Rojo, Otamendi, Garay, Zabaleta

That would present a ton of problems for us...

The way Fox has been doing the tournament is to list when their coverage begins, not the starting time of the game. It seemed weird to have a game start at what was 5 o'clock locally.

I think you play to win. The US will have plenty of other opportunities to get the younger players developed in World Cup qualifying. I wish we could have seen Horvath play and it would have been nice to get Nagbe, Pulisic, and Miazga (if he were on the roster) some playing time. If we lose, perhaps he'll play them in the 3rd place game.

Argentina is ranked #1 in the World. They attack so efficiently. When the US has the ball they just run and take it. Folding under pressure!

We don't deserve to be on the same field as Argentina. This has been embarrassing so far.

Messi is just so amazing to watch. The silver lining is we basically lost in the 3rd minute so now I can enjoy Argentina's brilliance.
