USMNT's core is moving away from MLS and that's fine for now
While fewer MLS players are being selected for the U.S. national team, we explain why this isn't a cause for any concern about the development of American soccer moving forward.
No brainer after the year he had for Norwich. Same with Wright.![]()
Sargent returns to USMNT roster for Copa América tuneups
United States men's national team manager Gregg Berhalter has named Josh Sargent in his 27-player roster for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Brazil, the team's final matches before squads are due for Copa América.www.espn.com
Really surprised/disappointed that Diego Luna didn’t get the call. I don’t get it.
Unless Luna did not get released by his club for the camp and will be released for the Olympics.Yeah, that is hard to rationalize. Bernard Kamungo was another one I was surprised to not see on the roster.
His club said he was released and they expected him to get called up for this.Unless Luna did not get released by his club for the camp and will be released for the Olympics.
They need to quit the back passing and just press, press, press.GOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLL!!!
PULISIC GOOOOOOOAAALL!!!
1-1
They need to quit the back passing and just press, press, press.
He had an excellent match. The back line on the other hand………. That dicking around is going to get them exposed more often than not I believe.1-1 final
Matt Turner was everywhere. Wow!
Sack this guy now and offer the position to Marcelo Gallardo. For the love of god, for once, get an attacking minded manager who can get the talent on this team running in the right direction instead of standing still admiring their passes.![]()
Fans treat USMNT like a club side – and it could cost Berhalter his job
With eyes on a World Cup on home soil, Copa América will be a referendum on the team’s head coachwww.theguardian.com
It's a fair article. Some US fans are very delusional as to where this team is really from a talent standpoint internationally. It is the most talented team the US has had, but that is like saying this is Italy's golden age of basketball and they are just a manager away. They aren't winning the COPA or the WC and you could remove GB tomorrow and that won't change my opinion there. I wished they did move on from him just to see people wake up and see....oh wait maybe we are more than a player or two away even with a new manager. You cannot play attacking football when you're the less talented team and in real competitions....that is what the US is...the less talented team outside of CONCACAF for the most part. How many less talented teams out press the best clubs or international teams? Answer = 0.0, they sit back, absorb it, and pray for the counter.![]()

I think it’s directed more at USA soccer. The game plan always seems to default to let’s reach back into the bag of stale bread yet one more time and try to make a delicious fresh sandwich. It's a fair article. Fair enough, but bringing in an outsider was done already too...it didn't elevate the US up any higher. It just highlighted the pay for play situation that all foreign players and coaches know is holding the US back. I'm all for a great outsider coming in, but that line isn't exactly going to be a long one for the best coaches as they are employed at better spots.I think it’s directed more at USA soccer. Wash, rinse, repeat. Do something bold.
Hire Marcelo Gallardo for two years. Fresh start for the operation.Fair enough, but bringing in an outsider was done already too...it didn't elevate the US up any higher. Changes need to be at the top of the US Soccer federation first IMO. The problems with US soccer aren't just some new manager and that needs to be fixed first. You could say bring in Pep or Jurgen and those coaches couldn't run the style they want with this player pool, not even close to it.Hire Marcelo Gallardo for two years. Fresh start for the operation.
No disagreement regarding the short comings of the top down organization in place. Totally agree.Changes need to be at the top of the US Soccer federation first IMO. Until US Soccer gets serious about finding and identifying real talent that aren't paying 10k a year at the youth level because Mommy and Daddy need an ego boost we'll be a mediocre international team stuck playing in a weak Concacaf. It sounds sour, but Ronaldo was getting thrown away hamburgers from McDonalds and was found out. The US Soccer setup is doomed to fail so unless Gallardo can shake up that tree which he could not as an outsider, it doesn't really matter....get rid of Parlow and all of the alum US Team members still thinking the US system is a good one because we now have some academies. The sheer amount of talent missed from an athletic standpoint in this country is going to be hard to overcome without real changes. There are too many junior level coaches now being paid to suck off that pay for play teet so it will take an outsider at the top blowing up the current youth systems.

You keep thinking US is just a HC away.Is it delusional to think we shouldn't be treating Panama like they are Argentina and cede the play to Panama even with a man down?
There are a lot of people who think that GB's halftime subs were completely disaterous. I agree completely with them.
Nobody thought we were going to win the copa. But we should beat Panama or at least draw to them even with a man down.
Gregg has been a complete disaster and it is time to move on.
You keep thinking US is just a HC away.
Our results under Berhalter in competitions that matter (non-friendlies)...Gregg has been a complete disaster
I absolutely don't, I thought I made it clear that I didn't expect them to win the copa.
But getting out of the group stages in an easy group should be a given.
And despite Weah's ridiculous folly, I at least hoped for changes that would not put us even further behind.
I am not the only one saying this.
Nice, he can go play for Michael Carrick and hopefully challenge this year to move up.Aiden Morris may not go to the Olympics, as he was just signed away from Columbus to Middlesborough--and they are in their pre-season training. It is not clear if he will be released or not. He was a key player on two MLS Cup winners here
So have I for 30+ years and GB has been one of the more successful US coaches if you're being honest during that stretch. Win totals and percentage, trophies, getting out of the group stage of his first WC. The US is now 6 straight unbeaten versus Mexico and who started that train? Mexico has nobody young and are weening off their older stars so your prediction last night was genius. No Chuckie Lazano, Herrera, and a host of other main players in the Mexican roster for years. It's not that you disagree with me, it's your emphatic BS on your takes that is annoying. The US failed to qualify for the WC before last....he got them out of the group stage. The US won multiple trophies the summer before last...with A and B squads. It's total lack of objectivity that makes your recycled Twitter takes suck. Later Dunning Kruger....go back to Twitter and get your next hot take.
