Several cop cars were at the scene, and some arrests were made. Don't know who was arrested and if they were Vols or not.

I was just on the scene at Bar Knoxville. The owner guessed 7-10 males, at least some who were "UT football players," were in the fight.

BREAKING: There was a large fight at Bar Knoxville this morning allegedly involving several Vols football players.

From Volsnation:
Yeah I read that too in the GQ supposedly alot of our players have been part of a fight. DaRick Rogers, Janzen Jackson, Darren Myles Jr, Greg Clark, Marlon Walls, Montori Hughes, Denarius Moore, and Matt Milton all where there. Some people are saying that Milton might have been stabbed and Walls punched and undercover cop. Hopefully its just a rumor but it doesnt look good at all.

If the cop part is true these players are 17ed.

The feeling around Knoxville is that it might not have been as bad as it first seemed, but that could just be wishful thinking. It could still get ugly even if only a few parts of it are true.</p>

The bar owner said in the article that the UT football players are treated as VIPs, which (she said) means they don't have to pay the cover charge that applies to other(non-VIP) patrons. If true, that is a directviolation (and not a secondary violation) of the NCAA rule against benefits not available to ordinary people or students.

“All the security then rushed in and were trying to break it up. My husband saw them picking up bar stools and starting to swing them. We got them out the door with security. There happened to be a friend of ours who was an off-duty police officer outside. He tried to help, and he ended up getting knocked out in the street and proceeded to be kicked while he was down on the ground in the middle of Cumberland.

There's going to have to be a pretty good reason or reasons to excuse that description. We aren't taking a random Thursday night scuffle. That's an all-out brawl...

Maybe the owners are Alabama fans...

KNOXVILLE - Two police officers were assaulted - leaving one unconscious in the street - during an early morning bar brawl involving several University of Tennessee football players.

A bar patron also was sent to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after being beaten by a group of people identified as UT football players. Authorities are withholding that victim’s name pending notification of relatives.

Knoxville Police Department Officer Robert Capouellez was found unconscious lying on the street outside the Bar Knoxville, 1820 Cumberland Ave., during the 1:50 a.m. melee, according to KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk.

“It appears he was a patron, not in uniform and off duty,” DeBusk said this morning.

Capouellez was undergoing treatment this morning at the University of Tennessee for a head wound, DeBusk said.

Police have charged UT freshman Da’Rick Rogers, 18, with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, DeBusk said. Rogers is a 6-foot-3, 205 pound receiver out of Georgia.

“According to multiple witnesses, the male victim from inside the bar was involved in an altercation with another patron when several additional patrons jumped into the fight,” DeBusk said.

“Employees of the bar intervened and pushed the fight outside onto the sidewalk. Officer Capouellez intervened in an attempt to stop the fight when he was attacked.

“According to witnesses, the officer was hit in the head and knocked to the ground. Once on the ground the suspect kicked the officer several times before fleeing the scene. Six individuals were identified as potential suspects. These individuals were located and detained for questioning. It appears several of these individuals may be associated with the University of Tennessee football program.

“One of the suspects has been turned over to UTPD, who will file charges after one of their officers was assaulted while attempting to take this individual into custody.

“Several witnesses as well as potential suspects are still being interviewed. I will release additional information as the investigation moves forward. I will not release any names of individuals detained until they are charged.”

DeBusk said “there could be additional charges as the investigation continues.”

Of the people detained by police, DeBusk said “most appear to be associated with the UT football program.”

DeBusk said police alerted UT football coach Derek Dooley, who is out of town, of the incident this morning.

The other players involved are rumored to be:

Jansen Jackson
Montori Hughes
Matt Milton
Greg King
Marlon Walls
Darren Myles

Where the guy says they deserve to be let off with no punishment. That one incident last year when they held a guy up at gun point and he said they didnt deserve their punishment was complete ********.

It isn't like if state players go to a Florida restaurant and the owner picks up the tab being a Florida fan that they can raise charges.

Is assaulting an off duty police officer really any different that assaulting a normal civilian? Seems like I remember Quentin Culberson doing something similar at a Provine/Lanier basketball game his sr year, no?

If the thread was filled with a bunch of accusations and statements about their players being more criminal or embarrassing than any other program, you have a point.

It's not though. What are we supposed to do? Ignore the fact that it's an issue because the same thing has happened in MSU's recent history? Again, it's news - significant news if the article represents anything remotely resembling the truth. It's going to be discussed and advertised on a sports message board. As soon as the first person suggests that MSU is immune to those issues and would never happen in Starkville, feel free to pile on...

So if you just beat up some random person and it turns out he's an off duty police officer, you're just SOL.

as defined for NCAA purposes. If so, they have some serious NCAA issues here. I suspect UT will be trying to paint the facts in a way so that this bar owner is not considered a booster for NCAA purposes. Should be interesting to watch play out.

the off-duty cop identifies himself as a cop before being assaulted. In that case, it is different than just kicking the **** out of a normal citizen. If the off-duty, does not identify himself as a cop before hand then it is the same as a normal citizen. At least that is what I remember from the Culberson deal. The off-duty that he whipped never identified himself as being a off-duty cop.
