Mormons are rich. They have a galactic empire!
Utah is a public institution just like Rutgers, not a Mormon one. It does not receive church funding, just like Rutgers doesn't. The school is where Utahans go if they are not Mormon. There are a lot of Mormon students there (one-third), but that's to be expected because the state is two-thirds Mormon.

This has been going on forever. Usually it was just the QB and a few other players.

This is like saying Lakewood is a public entity. Sure it is but we know where the decisions are coming from

I got some 2nd hand details on the deal from an Utah player. The cars are given to players on renewable 6 month leases. Players are responsible for $200 a month for taxes and fees. They have to pay for the insurance too. The players can’t drive them outside of Utah and the players have to do community service or dealership appearances as part of the deal.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think it's a good analogy. I know faculty at Utah -- they don't regard the church as running their school. And the Utah legislature is a lot more generous toward public higher education than, say, Arizona. It's not like Lakewood where the Orthodox use their power to starve the local public schools. https://ccpr.wpcarey.asu.edu/sites/default/files/fundingazut05-15.pdf

Can you imagine what that would cost in New Jersey? I'd guess the insurance would cost more than the truck monthly lease payment.

Story said insurance is paid as long as they keep a clean driving record.

"As part of the deal, the insurance costs will be covered as long as the student remains eligible and on scholarship at the university."
