Muschamp staying at Texas. Met with team and confirmed he's going nowhere. David Cutcliffe, come on down. You'll have above average talent for a couple of years and then you'll have the built in excuse of probation to mask your average recruiting ability. And then you can retire.

Yeah he is coach in waiting but if i was as big of a name as him i wouldnt want to wait another 5 years-ish to get the head job. Texas is great and maybe its the sec arrogance in me talking but i would not pass on an SEC school

I'm guessing there's something out there circulating that makes UTK an unattractive gig.

I probably would be patient too simply because when the job is his, he will have far more money at his disposal than he would Tennessee. We're talking about the highest athletic department budget in the country. Not to mention, I think it will be far easier to win championships at Texas than it would Tennessee. It'd be a very tough decision though...

Im no coach but i would think making a couple mil at a SEC school that has championship history would be enough to lure me away. now its defiantly the SEC arrogance talking haha

But some people are just wired different. He may just be content to wait it out, and I can't say I blame him whatever he chooses.

Would you advise Muschamp to take the UTK gig knowing there was a high probability of an NCAA hammer about to strike? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Muschamp would be an idiot to leave Texas for Tenn. At Texas he has all the talent he'd ever want in his backyard. At Tenn he won't.

I hope they cant, cause when they rotate back on our schedule a easy W would be great. But im sure(after the probation stigma wears off) they can be contenders again. I hate bama, so the only reason i root for tenn is to beat them

other than that I know he's the "coach in waiting" at Texas.

Does Muschamp have something in his current contract that guarantees him to be the coach that follows Brown? If it does, does it guarantee Muschamp a minimum salary he will be paid at Texas? I didn't know if this "coach in waiting" status was something contractually guaranteed or if there is some kind of gentleman's agreement involved. I would hope Muschamp got this stuff in writing...

And there would be some sort of financial payment terms if Texas should not name him head coach when Brown retires.

They pay Mack a ton, but would Muschamp necessarily continue on the sky-high salary? Obviously, they have the money to do that. But, who is to say Texas would pay Muschamp then what Tenn. may be willing to pay now? They may think Muschamp would only be worth $2M/yr to start when that time comes whereas Tenn. may thing it's more along the lines of $2.5-$3.0M to start, now. I'm wondering how much variability Texas has in what they can pay him when it gets to that point. If it's alot, he may be very willing to listen to Tenn. should they come in with a nice offer on the table. $3M/year now is clearly better than $xM/year starting x years down the road.

One thing Tenn coming after him did for him was give him leverage to get more out of Texas, either in terms of money now or guarantees for later or a firmer timeline as to when he would become Texas's coach, for him to stay.

Even Fulmer recruited nationally at UT..
You HAVE to recruit nationally at UT. I don't know if you have spent a lot of time in East Tennessee lately but there is something you see a lot of on a football field that you really don't see at all in the greater Knoxville area.
