Everybody will still be testing the waters and finding themselves with non-district games, but there is an interesting match-up or two. Here are my thoughts for an informal discussion, not official picks:

Fort Defiance at Stuarts Draft: Even though the Indians will have a game under their belts and Draft will not, this one still looks like a rout on paper.

Covington at Riverheads: Gladiators should take this one, but Covington is supposed to be improved this year, so it might be close for a half.

Buffalo Gap at Parry McCluer: Could be one of the closest ones on the docket this week. I will go with the Bison in a tight one.

Wilson at R E Lee: I saw enough raw talent on the field Friday night to go out on a limb and predict that the Leemen can take this one. They just need to cut down on mistakes.

Waynesboro at Staunton River: On paper looks like a massacre with a capital M.

Strasburg at East Rock: The Eagles should fly high in this one, as they will most games this season. (With one possible exception I hope!!!!)

Nelson at Page: Wins will be hard to come by for these two again this year, so a turnover might decide this one. Nelson by a TD maybe?

Central at Stonewall: Who WERE those masked men that came within a point of Strasburg last week? Still will take Central until the Generals prove they are for real.

Luray at Madison: Sounds like the Mounties are too explosive on offense for the Dogs to hang in this one.

Spotswood at Lord Botetourt: Probably have to go with the home team here, if they are the same program they have been the last few years.

Don't know enough about Riverside at TA or Skyline at Broadway to have an opinion on either of those games.

These are pretty much my thoughts exactly. Good stuff as usual longtimer. I hope one of these teams we think doesnt have much of a chance proves us wrong. Would love to see SJ get competitive again. Its good for our area and district to have competitive teams from top to bottom

Week 2 is always tough. I know enough about these teams to be very wrong with my predictions.
