Started the game thinking "I don't want to play these guys"...

Now I'm thinking I think they're overrrated. Ole Miss looks like they have the talent to pull it together mid season form and possibly next season but they looked bad... Ole Miss had their way. Someone (sorry for not giving you credit, I don't remember) was talking about Franklin not ever getting better and how he should have left and now I'm starting to agree.

Has nothing to do with them losing or winning. Other than offensive line and Matthews being a beast they were garbage. They did the little things right (that WR block was awesome) but sometimes hard work doesn't make up for talent.

Crazy how everyone is hating on Vandy. Wish I knew what was the reason. They just didn't have an answer for Treadwell in the third quarter (didn't catch a pass in the 4th). Vandy stopped their pass and TSUN gashed them on the run. Why else call a speed rush from your own 25 under 1:30? [I'll answer that: because it was a block in the back by Moncrief. I asked myself why the CB didn't just push him out of bounds.]

Last year against TSUN I thought Vandy looked like a high school team for three quarters. Then Vandy came back and won the game.

[As an aside, I think that the bad spot in the 4th really hurt Vandy. That drive was already at 7 plays and over 3 mins.]

Franklin not every getting better?
2009 2-10
2010 2-10 (Franklin's first year)
2011 6-7
2012 9-4

He won with 2-star talent. Do you think he can't win with 3-star talent?

That was me. But I don't want to take too much credit, seeing these things is just common sense. Many MSU fans WANTED Vandy to be good and therefore win this game, but they are still Vandy. It's harder to win up there than at State and Ole Miss. And the third years are usually slump years. Franklin absolutely should have left last year. They can't even fill up half their stadium for their season opener, how the hell are they ever going to build a program? Last ceiling was their absolute ceiling. Most seasons, 6 wins would typically be it.

Again, I quote Joe Kines:

"Good coaches and good players will win, bad coaches and good players will win. But a good coach and bad players will get your *** beat."

thats not what i got out of it, nor what i got out of watching the game last night.....what i got out of it is that bo wallace is struggling to get the ball downfield. very short passes all night. after wallace's shoulder surgery, it looks like he cant get much zip on anything over 20 yards. death by a million cuts was the gameplan last night and i suspect it will be while bo is running the show.

Loss of Rodgers was a huge reason I thought they would flop. He was a very good leader-type QB. When less talented teams make noise, it's usually done with a QB.

I mean, that 121Josey idiot said this:

2009 2-10
2010 2-10 (Franklin's first year)
2011 6-7
2012 9-4

First of all, he's got Franklin's first year wrong, and second I assume he thinks Vandy was going to maintain 8 regular season wins, based on that trend. I don't think people realize actually how hard it is for a school of Vandy's potential to win 8 football games in one year.

Oh, and then he says Vandy now has 3 star talent instead of 2 star? Bullcrap. Within the conference, they still have the least talent out there. Popularity of the 'stars' and recruiting is ever increasing, thus the amount of stars are increasing. More kids are rated than in years past, etc.

What was Carta-Samuels bad at?

He went for 21 for 36, 300 yards, and 2 TDs. He did have two ints, but one of those hit his best WR right in the hands. The other may not have been perfectly thrown, but Conner simply stole from the WR on the ground.

I'm not saying he was great, but I am saying that 300 yards of passing offense is something Tyler Russell has never done in a game. A 58% comp percentage for the night is what Russell has averaged in his career. And I think Russell is a pretty solid QB.

The stat line for Jordan Rogers and Austyn Carta Samuels against Ole Miss is almost identical.

The QB didn't hurt Vandy last night. Their lack of a run game and tiring down the stretch did hurt them.

That's a **** load of rationalizations.

I'd say their talent is in the same range as an OM or MSU.

It is. I thought Vandy and Ole Miss looked worse last night than they did last year. Hard to know until you see them against more competition. And Ole Miss having CJ Johnson back at end might help them a lot, although their OL just looked bad to me.

But other than differences because of scheduling, I would think both teams will have similar success as last year. Even though UM looked worse last night, I still think that team would have easily beat the MSU team that showed up at the egg bowl. Until MSU proves that last year was mainly a coaching issue and not a talent issue, I would say UM and Vandy have more proven talent than MSU. I hope/think MSU will end up proving that it has considerably better across the board talent and depth if not the same quality playmakers, but that should have been true last year also, and it never showed on the field.

No way in hell. They played well the past few seasons, and they had some good upperclassmen. It isn't sustainable at Vanderbilt. I don't care what the rankings say.

Ole Miss should have blown those boys out. Why didn't you? That remains to be seen.

I agree. Both teams looked like it was the 1st game of the yr. Lots of busts on defense for us. Need our starting corners back badly. Also, if we lost Morris on the o-line, we might be in trouble. I don't care how talented they are, a true freshman O-lineman starter isn't what you want in the SEC

It appeared Vanderbilt had no idea how to stop the read option. Their linemen would all go to the ball carrier and leave Wallace open for good yardage.

Half of those yards were on a pass completed behind the line of scrimmage and a pass to a receiver who was 25-yards open.

Golson has a pulled hammy, and Sawyer is recovering from shoulder surgery. Sawyer's 1st contact of the yr was the game. That doesn't explain the busted coverages though, sheesh. Tired of seeing that

What's up with your starting corners? That would explain a lot from last night. Your defensive backfield looked a lot worse than I expected.

I know Golson played some because the Vandy fans wanted a pass interference on him. Not sure about Sawyer. No idea if Golson was 100% either.

I know on the 4th and 18 we didn't jam Matthews at the line at all, which is just absurd but not hard to fix later on. Think Collins had him on that play. On the late touchdown, it was just a ****** play call from Wommack. Like genuinely ridiculous. I don't know if you saw Freeze's comments after the game. But he was asked what he was thinking after the TD, and he said "That by the Grace of God I won't have to kill the defensive staff."

I did miss Franklin's first year but it strengthens my point.

said anything about them maintaining 8 wins. Nice straw-man. I think they have enough to be a perennial bowl team. Hard to win 8 games in a year? Oh, you mean like how hard it is for State to win 8 games in a year?

Damn Goat, you do not know **** about recruiting! You're the one who said Mullen will redshirt all these JUCOs he's bringing in this year!

They don't give out more stars from one year to the next. Vandy is on par with State not because it has equal talent, but because it has better Xs and Os coaches.

Here's there present recruiting class with the past two classes. I used Scouts rankings just because they paste neatly in the window. Feel free to Compare with 247

Carta-Samuels is bad. You're completely leaving out the fact that Matthews had about half of those 300 yards, and for most of them he went up and caught a bad pass and ran for 20 yards... of which Carta-Samuels got credit. Russell has never had a WR remotely close to as good as Matthews, so...

To boot, outside of Connor being a boss around the line of scrimmage both secondaries were lackluster.

Carta-Samuels reminds me a lot of Tyson Lee, a transfer not good enough to play in the SEC but thrown into the game anyway. He was painful to watch, and I don't care what his stats were.
