It's interesting that some teams like Vandy, Navy, etc, are solid with lower-rated players. Brains and heart are qualities that can make a difference over physical raw talent that some nerd-geek has assigned 5 stars to on some football website.

No doubt they are essential, but I'll take a QB with brains and leadership skills all day over a physical freak. Simpson at Bama fits that mold. They don't have to endure the grind of an SEC schedule, but look at Tulane's success. Winning with 2 stars that have brains and heart!

When Beamer was being mentioned as a possible Head Coach here, his supporters flooded this site claiming that Beamer was a recruiting magnet who would bring in talent like never before to Columbia. Hmmm. His recruiting has been no better than any other Head Coach here. Our 2 best coaches here, Steve Spurrier (3 Top 10 seasons) and Joe Morrison (2 Top 15 seasons), were never considered great recruiters. They were solid. Their calling card was "coaching chops". Head Coaches here who were considered "recruiting gurus", Bell, Scott and Muschamp, all failed miserably here and were fired. If we want any success here, better be sure our Head Coach knows how to coach.
