I'm getting the No-Scalpel version done, is it safe to get on a plane the next day? They said it shouldn't hurt but I don't want my mini vacation ruined by swelling. Anyone ever have it done?

I do construction management. One of my laborers got it done and came back to work the next day and he had severe swelling. It caused a lot of problems for him. I begged him to get it done on a Friday and take the weekend to recover but he was stubborn. I would ask your doctor, the change in pressure can not be good.

Years ago. Just use a lot of ice on it after the surgery and the next morning when you get up. Ice it before you leave and after you get to the hotel the next day. You should be fine.

Better safe than sorry when dealing with the possibility of your balls swelling to the size of grapefruits. That's terrifying.

Had it done on a Friday afternoon and tailgated all day and watched spring game the next day without issue.

Went back to work 2 days after, moving around caused a LOT of discomfort. Definitely tolerable, but not sure I'd want to be trying to enjoy a vacation.

But, mine was the scalpel type, guessing a little more "invasive." Good luck.

Mine are that way naturally, so I'm not sure what's so bad about that.

I had it done. Laid around with a bag of frozen peas on the area for two days, then made sure to wear a clean jockstrap for about a week (keeps things in place, which helps the bruising heal). Overall, the discomfort wasn't bad, and you could probably just tough it out, but I'd check with your doctor just to be safe.

Definitely don't ask a doctor - this board will suffice

I have heard more guys tell me that they have had it on the Thursday of the NCAA tourney and Masters Thursday so they can sit in front of the TV and not be bothered.

That's exactly right. It was a great opportunity to just sit on the couch with my Ice pack and watch TV and be left alone. Except when the ex-wife brought be breakfast, lunch and dinner on said couch --- and always said try going through labor for once when said meal was brought.

I hate when women try to say labor is the worst. Its just outright wrong.

Ask any woman if she wants to have another baby, and they will get this look of joy on their face, and smile lovingly and say yet.

Ask any guy if they want to be kicked in the nuts again, and you will never hear yes...

And claps like he's won the Super Bowl every time Federico makes a field goal. Yay!!! Now we're only down 36-3! Does this annoy anyone else, or is it just me?
See, what I don't like is that, when he enters the stadium, he always looks towards his wife. I mean, WTF? Why can't he look towards me first for once?

And when he jogs towards the bench, you see how he sort of favors his right leg. Only a total loser would do that. Never expose weakness.

And what's with the way he dresses? I mean, seriously. Why does he have to always wear something with an R on it. Shows a total lack of subtlety and imagination.

You know what else I heard? I heard that when he wipes his ***, it's always left to right. Left to right fer chrissakes! What a clown.

What a bunch of girly-men. When I needed a vasectomy, I just let the nails on one hand grow a bit long and dug in and did it myself while I was out hunting grizzly bears. Without a weapon.

How does the no-scalpel version work?

I had the traditional version 5 years ago. I made the mistake of doing too much the day after b/c I thought I felt fine. Big mistake. Total recovery was about 4 days.

Definitely get it done on a Friday, and make sure you apply ice as instructed. I wasn't as diligent and had swelling for a couple of weeks. No major problems but noticeable when I walked.

I'm getting the feeling that the general consensus is that doing it the day before going on vacation is not a wise idea.

Which is vastly better than getting the feeling that if one's balls swell up just a little bit more they might explode.

exploding testicles aside, what is the wait time before I can get back performing? I have a barbershop quartet I participate in...

Had it done way back when. Doc said there would be slight discomfort. What he meant was that there was slight discomfort for him from bending over to do the procedure.

Don't be silly and take any chances.

Exactly! Good grief man! Get it done when you have a few days off at home! Ironically, it's like Father's Day ... You sit on the couch all day with something cold in your lap and get to say no to chores, yardwork and other "honey-do's." I'd have another one if I could!

I used this approach. It gives you a perfect excuse to sit on the couch for several days and watch hoops.

I had mine done on a Friday morning. Made a deal with my wife that she had to take the kids and go stay with family for a couple of days and I sat around with frozen peas watching football. Haven't had a more relaxing weekend since.

You're having a vasectomy the day before and you don't want anything to ruin your "mini-vacation"? Good choice of words.
