I went and looked at the message boards for the other schools in our regional. VCU was the only one that seemed to know they had a baseball team. Some of their fans are pretty confident. They think State is a soft 1 and this is winnable for them.

Note: People on here and ED complain a lot about other posters and content and..... Visiting the message board of some of these little sports schools gives a little perspective.

I want to puff my chest out about some little nothing school calling Mississippi State a soft 1... But after the the SEC tournament, you can't blame them for feeling confident. Back to back run rulings means you talketh no shiteth for a while.

Absolutely! State fans don’t get to talk **** until Sunday, June 13, when the team is dog piling on the mound. Any crowing before then would be extremely hollow and in bad taste!

I get what you’re saying but doubt their will be any dog piling this weekend. That should be saved for Supers.

As I read through the posts, I found it interesting that the are excited that they have released a master plan for a baseball field, I got the impression they didn't have one on campus?

can be as confident,insecure, arrogant, or whatever as much as they want and it won’t make a bit of difference. Players play. Fans just fantisize.

I take issue with this. Fans do much more than that. They create home field advantage, buy apparel, spread the message, make the program more attractive for recruits, etc.

VCU's a strange place... dated a girl that went there for a while but that's another story... lot's of hipster/scene/punk folks around that area including a few of my friends. They love their craft beer, tattoos, and surprisingly their local sports.

My office window looks right at home plate of VCU's stadium. I think they are a pretty good team that has won something like 20 straight. However they are going to be blown away by the atmosphere this weekend. I would guess they have never had over 300 fans for a game at home this year. No one comes to see them play even though they have been pretty decent the last few years. And playing in the A-10 they probably haven't seen over a 1,000 people for a game this year unless it was in non-con. They do play in the double A Flying Squirrels Stadium.........which is an absolute dump. It's pretty comical to see 200 people watching a game in a 10,000 seat stadium. A few years ago they when were having issues with the Braves when they were the affiliate, they would have to play their conference games at 7:30 in the morning when the Braves were in town at the same time. I would get to work at 8:30am and they would be in the top of the fourth of a game with Dayton. It was quite a site for sure.

VCU won't get to play State, Campbell will beat them twice.

Campbell beats VCU, VCU beats Samford, State beats Campbell, then Campbell beats VCU again. State beats Campbell to win it all.

Ha! Not quite. I am a lifelong Bulldog that has been up in Virginia for a while. It just so happens my office is in VCU's soccer stadium that looks into the baseball stadium. As far as more info on VCU......well there is not much to talk about for their baseball team. Pretty solid team the past few years in the A-10. The campus is a pretty normal metropolitan campus with not many students who live on campus in comparison to their overall enrollment of at least 31,000. Their footprint in Richmond has grown tremendously as they are pretty much buying up any property remotely close to their campus and construction is nuts over there. Obviously their claim to fame is the Final 4 run in 2011. Basketball is solid. Other than that not much else. As far as athletics the only thing fans care about is basketball. They don't have football. You'll see shirts around town claiming they are undefeated on the football field.
