NCAA had went to all lengths to specifically prohibit such activities from happening under the control of the institution.
State needs to go public real fast with this, say a couple of quick mea culpas, penalize themselves a handful of recruiting visits for next season, and move on.
What they don't need to do is 1) pretend it didn't happen or that it's no big deal---because the NCAA has already went to excessive lengths to explain exactly why it is such a big deal to them and 2) do nothing.

Lane Kiffin and his nonsense is going to be out all over the web in the next week or so and MSU doesn't need the national media tying the PONY incident into things with any-" another case in the SEC was near Starkville, Ms. where MSU recruits recently..."

Nip it in the bud. Take the little punishment now and it will all pass by signing day which is 15 days away.

I don't think it is, as long as they are of age and paid for their own entry.

Point being, I don't see why it's even a problem, unless there is some stripper rule in the NCAA that I don't know about.

I loathe his nose for searching and reporting NCAA violations. Dammit what other school has a beat writer that is continuously looking to police the school and blow the NCAA's whistle?

This is pathetic.

Unless they didn't pay their way in, or they're not 18. Veazey is following the trail of one guy posting in his comment section who's trying to stir up some crap.

I honestly think the only true violation would be if they didn't pay their own way. If kids under the age of 18 are allowed in, then I think the accountability falls back on the club.

it will be a lot better when somebody not named Kyle Veazey is doing this exact same stuff. It would bother me if his name wasn't such a easy rhyme with sleazy. If Bob Smith were writing these reports, then it would be cool.

NOT an NCAA violation to go to a strip joint on your recruiting visit.

Veazey needs to get a life. Little prick loves **** like this....remember when Jackie went to practice. Commented to a punter that he needed to drop the ball at a different point. Big 17'ing deal. If that's the worst thing we do, we don't have anything to worry about. Veazey was reporting on it like we were giving away Escalade's.

Little dweeb looks like he belongs in the NCAA. When's his next week off? We need more of 'em.

mississippi puts out dozens of hack journalists each year from their journalism school. And like any good rebel, they will dig up dirt on MSU and yell it from the mountain tops. At the same time, they will do all that is possible to keep any rebel atrocities under the rug. This is the way that it has always been and always will be. I can't believe that Jackie hasn't warned Mullen of this situation though. Of course, alot of people here will claim that i see black helicopters, but anyway.

which makes me tend to distrust him, I just think Kyle at times loves to feel like he's Bob Woodward or something chasing the Watergate story. Whether its something like this or JWS attending a FB practice or some other meaningless garbage where there MIGHT be some dug up minor violation or a player possibly having some brush with the law you can always count on ole' Kyle to drop anything and everything else going on with MSU to dig on this like a bloodhound until he can unearth all the "facts". Just seems he tries to MAKE this kind of stuff a story whether there really is one or not.

I don't know what the parents of recruits think, but I think most fans assume that official visits are something like summer camp. Scheduled/sponsored activities at all times with counselors/chaperone's present.

Also, if the SEC is looking to send a message that it's tough on recruiting violations, this would be an opportune time for them to use the "where there's smoke there's fire" violation and pop a school that's not a cash cow. UM, MSU, or UK will be the next school to go on probation in the SEC and it will be for the same **** that the money makers get away with.

A.) Coaches were involved.
B.) They drove to Memphis - outside of the NCAA approved zone around campus.
C.) Ole Miss was doing other, more serious things - buying players brand new Mustangs & Explorers.

the evidence was on Facebook. It's probably a secondary violation.

I didn't see you hating on the UT beat writers when Kiffin was doing all this ****. It really is not a big deal NCAA wise. Bad PR - most definitely.

Recruits get player escort who take them out after dinner. Anyone who's spent any time around a college campus should know this.

When Slive came in he made it a big point that his goal was to see that no SEC school would go on probation. There are two ways to accomplish that goal: A) everybody quit cheating, or B) everybody quit turning each other in. It's not too hard to figure out which option they went with.

journalism is a tough business these days. A story about recruits and strippers is bound to get thousands of hits. If our players took recruits to the Pony, as stupid as that would be, then that's fair game.

How many layoffs have been forced on Veazey in the past year alone? three? If he can parlay his popularity (hit count) into a more stable job, then good for him.

and unless someone comes forward with info saying that university officials somehow sanctioned this or accommodated it then this is NOT newsworthy. Maybe we should have all visiting recruits under lock and key from the time they arrive until the time they leave

Why are the links to their facebook pages in Veazey's blog comment section linked from the Spirit? Is some Mississippi stalker monitoring MSU recruits facebook pages to find something like this?

He said he's looking into it. If he finds out something newsworthy, he'll tell us. If he ignored it, he wouldn't be doing his job.
