on BDJ last night, I thought that they looked better than Relf's, even though he had the one INT.

But, it's a scrimmage, so I'm not really puttng a whole lot into that. Still, I am pleased that Tyler went 12 out of 17 and that the INT apparently wasn't his fault. I'll take that over Henig's 6 out of 17 and "getting in a groove at the end of the scrimmage."

back and forth all they want about "this one is short" "this one can't run" "this one can't throw," but our QB situation this year is the best we have had since Omarr Conner was here.

34 was somehow able to watch Tyler play a couple of series in a spring game and decide he knew everyone of his faults. Not saying Russell will beat out Relf or win the Heisman like Snead but he is a good quarterback that will get a lot better. He played in a four wide spread for three years inthe top rated class in MSand was very successful, ask Panola. Realize these two guys dont know as much about quarterbackingas Coach 34, but Spurrier and Saban did offer this guy a scholarship and recruited him activley until the end. So with RElf and Russell both qbs, I like our chances.</p>

he is ready to play meaningful series vs Auburn, LSU, and Georgia to help us win the games. We will see. If he does, i'm wrong and all the more better for us.

We'll see in one month

Tylerdoesnt complete a pass or makes a mistake. Tell me what great passes Relf completed last year. The TDto Bumphis was intended for Wilder. I do wonder if there is an expectation for every game to be like the egg bowl for Relf, that's unrealistic. Tyson Lee did beat our Relf last year, and with the exception of the Mississippi game, there were not many highlights. I hear how much he has improved and I hope he lights it up, just having seen Tyler play, I think once he gets some good experience, he will do some good things, not right away, but as he gets some snaps he will be a good one for us over the next four years.

He threw a pick in the south state semi finals against Geroge County that Alonzo Lawrence picked off so you need to blast him for that one.

and he will play a good bit against Memphis...I just have a hard time seeing him playing alot of snaps against Auburn on that Thursday night.

I also think people get carried away on here and act like I am saying he is a Henig or Kyle York. In no way am I saying that- I'm just saying he isnt the Dan Marino many made him out to be when he was at Meridian. Quotes like "he is better as a Senior than anybody we have at State" and "Mullen can't afford to redshirt Russell" were just a little too unrealistic

..I request somebody chronicle how Russell has undergone an almost magical metamorphosis since the spring game.

Because in the spring game, Russell was so horrible & unprepared, he was making me long for the halcyon days of Michael Henig.

Some sixpacker must have some inside scoop on how Russell has gone from Jane to Tarzan since the spring game.

Please share it with us.

He was with the 2nd team offense playing against the 1st team defense.

It is similar to how Phil Turner was not the same player last year when playing with the second line.

...I have seen the MSU spring game on CSS about 5 times now.

That means I have had several opportunities to see Russell overthrow wide open WR's by 10 yards.

I have had several opportunities to see Russell panic in the pocket though the spring game allowed little rushing pressure & 0 contact.

I have had several opportunities to watch Russell's f*cked up footwork.

I could go on, but please stop using the lame excuse "He was going against the first team defense."

The guy was a train wreck in the spring game & I am still looking for somebody to reveal what is the genesis of his remarkable transformation since the spring game.

I guess he hasn't sat on his *** for the last four months. I think he can carry 240+ lbs, but he's still a RS Fr.I think he'll back Relf up this year, but we haven't seen much of Relf in live game situations either. And when we have it's mostly option stuff in a secondary role. I'd like to see Relf audible through some pass plays on 3rd and long in front of 80,000 people and then hit someone with a seam route or anything other than a dump off pass or a screen. Long way to go with both of those guys.

...so you don't like big cities & rock musicians. You probably also don't like kids playing on your lawn.

My 90 year old grandma finds these things likewise appalling.

I am actually looking for a take on Russell from somebody who doesn't TiVo the Lawrence Welk Show.

with their QB's. A lot of poeple don't realize that it takes time for QB's to develop in the SEC.

Someone can say "John Bond" all day, but that kind of proves my point because the SEC has improved an awful lot since 1980. Tim Tebow was treated as a false idol by Florida fans and the media, and he was merely a role player as a freshman. Matt Stafford was the first pick in the draft a couple of years ago, and he struggled mightily as a freshman. Eli Manning was also the first pick of the draft, and he not only RS, he was a back-up his RS freshman year- and this was in part at the request of his Dad, who knows a thing or two about playing QB. The last really good QB that I can remember to come in as a true freshman and do well was Peyton Manning- one of the top 10 QB's in NFL history. And even then, he only started because of injuries to their other QB's.

Now, at MSU, I have seen us do things with our QB's that were outright stupid- see Omarr Conner as the poster child for this. Jackie burned his redshirt so that he could play a few meaningless snaps at WR during a 2-10 seaon, and then Croom continued to shuttle him between WR and QB in addition to not designing plays that took advantage of his strengths.

And despite some of the greats in the SEC taking their lumps or having to be brought along slowly, we expect a Peyton Manning type performance right off the bat, and if it doesn't happen, we quickly discard that QB for the next "real deal". We don't care about the long term because "he's better than what we have now, put him in now!" It really pisses me off to be sitting in the stands, and the QB will throw an incompletion, and some idiot will inevitable start calling for the back-up. It's retarded.

I'm glad that we RS Tyler Russell, and not because I do or don't think he's the "real deal". I'm glad because we are actually trying to develp him. And as far as the spring game- that's not a huge concern for me right now. Because he is learning. He is still developing, and on top of it, we have Chris Relf who can play QB. I honestly do not, and would not have expected Tyler to be reaady to start in the SEC at this point in his career. I do expect him to be the top back-up and to continue to develop and to get some game experience. That he is doing. I do expect him to be able to be the starter if need be by his sophomore year- he may not have to be because of Relf being a senior.

The spring game performance does not concern me either because between then and now, he will get a lot more reps, and he will continuie to develop and the main thing I want to see is if he learns from and improves upon that performance. And I believe that Tyler Russell will do that.

the game i saw he wasnt marino but he also had very little time. It was his first live action against a college defense. What did relf do as far as throwing so well against Jackson State and UM or the spring game/ Hope they both do well but dont understand some of these comments. Tyler is not the runner Relf is nor is Relf the pure passer that Tyler will be

that's why there is alot of animosity with alot of posters on my posts...

If I am wrong, good for us- but if i'm not, expect alot of the same treatment Tyson Lee got last year

I am perfectly fine saying he might not be ready to play this season - that's fine. But you have been basically writing him off for his career ever since he stepped foot on campus or played a down at State.

and let me say, I'm not a C34 hater like most, but I think you're off base a little here. Not only would it help us as a team if TR can become our starter, but if he is successful it helps us in many many areas. He is our most high-profile recruit in a long time, he's a MS guy that had a lot of hype, nad he was a huge State fan. If we get a guy like that to be successful, then it helps us tremendously in recruiting and in a PR standpoint. Now, if he's not ready, he's not ready. The best player should play whether it is Relf or Russell. If he is ready we will run an offense similar to the '06 gators but more balanced as far as the QB snaps go. If you are in fact hoping he is not as good as hyped just so you are right for internet cred than its just dumb. Russell being a successful QB at State is important because it gives Mullen instant validity with other QB recruits as well as MS guys.

spring game behind Relf's OLine and Relf would have Russell's results behind Russell OLine.

You obviously weren't paying attention.. Damn.....sometimes...............

a freshmen quarterback has to be something very special to be effective his first year. John Bond was only asked to run the option which he did very well but he never could have made it in any type of passing offense even his senior year. The SEC is much more demanding today than it was even 20 years ago.
