Stansbury says "hopefully" end in sight in Sidney situation, a little bit more than it has been. That's my optimistic thinking.

Veazy then follows it up with another twitter that says,
"As hesitant as Stansbury has been to speak on the record on Sidney, especially with optimism, that's an interesting statement."
Does the fact that Bury is now commenting means there is reason for hope? Could this be the week Cowbell9 shoves it all back in your faces?

that being said, it's pretty obvious the McLain Theory will hold here. And also, Stansbury just said there may be an end in sight, did not say it would be a positive one.

I am starting to wonder if he'll come back next year. I checked some mock NBA drafts over the weekend and most of them in the past ~2 months have him going in the second round, or very late first round.

Not exactly guaranteed money and not even close to a lottery pick like a lot have projected prior to this year. Is that really worth coming out at 19 with no college experience? If he's as good as advertised, he'll be able to improve his stock a lot.

For what it is worth, I talked to Sidney right after the BB Saturday. I asked when he was going to get cleared. I told him we needed him. His words, not mine, they are talking about me being able to play next Saturday. Hope upon hope this is right.

For an 11 am game we might outnumber the Bama fans. I just hope we don't sleepwalk through that game like we did last year. And last Saturday's game.

He said he'd be cleared by the end of the week back in November and then again that he'd be cleared by the start of SEC play.

He may be right, but he has told anyone who asked that he would be cleared "next Monday" for the last two months.

Sidney gets asked about when he is going to get cleared. I don't see how he is able to walk down the sidewalk to class without getting stopped two dozen times.

I ate at Mugshots. There was a guy at the next table sitting by himself looking through notebooks and with his laptop open. We wondered who in the world would come do work at Mugshots? Then, I overheard his phone conversation. He was talking to someone in the basketball program (Best guess, Coach Kirby, I'm pretty sure he said "Alright, Rob" at the end of the conversation) about the game and Sidney. He asked if Sidney was still going to work out in the morning. Evidently the answer was no, because he then said he'd go by and see them at the office anyway before his flight. Then he said, "well, honestly, it's been so long since anyone's seen him play that I don't think anybody would take him right now." Then he talked about how Jarvis was a beast and the conversation ended with "see you in the morning".
As we left, we took a better look at his spread of work: Scouting reports, schedules of games, Pacers notebook, logging into a secure site on his laptop. Obvious conclusion: This guy was a scout for the Pacers.

So take that for what it's worth: An NBA scout says that he's not sure anyone would take Sidney right now because it's been so long since people have seen him play. Could that mean we get him back next year? Who knows.

Even if he decides that he needs to play a year of college ball to get his draft stock back where it was, which is probably true, what reason do we have to think he'll be cleared for next year?

If he's jeopardized his ameteur status, or at least if the NCAA thinks he has jeopardized his ameteur status, he can't really do anything to reverse that, right?

As the talk was about MSU, sports, involved a scoop, and had nothing to do about JSU cheerleaders.

Wonder who it was?

that it seems like Veasey tends to cut up the quote in his blog whereas Locke will tend to give the whole quote and more context? I am a KV fan for sure, but it just seems like sometimes you get a piecemeal bit of the quote from VZ and Locke gives the whole thing, which in some cases - like this one - provides a little more insight.

This is what Locke posted.

"Nothing has been decided for sure," Stansbury said. "Hopefully the end's probably in sight a little bit more than it has been. Hopefully, we can hear something by the end of this week. That's my optimistic thinking. But it's definitely a lot closer than it was."

the worst case scenario for us and him is that the NCAA doesn't clear him, and he has to go to Europe.

I don't know, I guess that's where Don Jackson comes in. I know that Powe was denied eligibility at least once and after a LONG time was cleared. That doesn't necessarily mean that's what will happen with Sidney, but I guess it means that there's a chance. It may be one in a million, but it's still a chance.

What I hope happens is that he doesn't get cleared until the very end or after this season and comes back and replaces SWAT for us in the post. Next year with Riek, Bailey, or Wendell Lewis is kind of scary.

if they would go ahead and clear him now and we add him to what we already have THIS year, he might actually have a chance to get enough games under his belt that this team could actually at least have a chance to do some serious damage come March. Without Sidney I just don't feel like we have enough quality bodies in the post. Jarvis is great but he can't do it all by himself when we play the elite teams.

I agree. Many NBA players like Patrick O Bryant get drafted off of big games in the NCAA tourney. Sidney could play a few SEC games and have a good tournament showing and still guarantee himself a lottery pick without even playing a full season. NBA drafts off potential more than anything.

there is one basketball insider who said over the weekend that a decision is expected by end of day on Tuesday. He was not sure what the decision would be.

because I don't keep up with pro basketball very much, but it seems to me like he might have a better chance of getting drafted by staying another year at MSU if he is cleared.

The only upside to playing in Europe would be the money.

I just don't remember very many Americans going over there and getting drafted. That may very well be because they are in college, though.

If he is declared ineligible, I don't think he has a choice but to go to Europe. Or maybe JUCO or NAIA
