Venting because I had high hopes for this season.
Several of our big wins came withopponent injuries or otherwise missing major players.
Several of our guys are too cool to raise their arms and jump on late close outs. We play physical D but we don't always play high effort D.
Being close to a 3pt shooter is not the same as blocking vision and space.
We're only so-so on boxing out and boxing in on rebounds. I thought rebounding was a point of emphasis. Doesn't look it.
We get less than 50% of 50/50 balls. Without McConnell and Mulcahy, we'd be way below.
Recruitment leaves me with little hope for improvement or even staying in the mid tier of the B1G.
Pikes tactic to find diamonds in the rough will yield more ruff than diamonds. There is a lot of positive RU feeling out there and the rest of the east is in decline. This should be the time we're building pipelines of talent and connections to top NYC/NJ high schools and AAU. SHU is cleaning our clock in this department.
How can Pike's think so much of Williams (meant Miller) when he has no offense and he is also a defensive rebounding liability?
Lafayette, Umass, Penn St., Northwestern, Maryland losses are still unforgiveable.
Hyatt was just a bad guess, but who did homework on Jones, Agee and Palmquist and missed so badly.
Does Pikes have the cojones to chase off dead wood and work the transfer portal, because that's the only hope for next year.
Woolfolk and Simpson had no other majors competing with us.
Super-senioritis. I really feel like Baker and Harper only give there full effort if the other guys have kept us in the game.
Only McConnell, Mulcahy, Omoruyi, and Mags make this team worth rooting for....maybe Dean, too.
Every other top coach in this league works the refs. Pike thinks he's smarter than them? Comes off as not caring as much.
(PS: Love Pikes and grateful for the job he's done, but he could do a lot to improve.)

OP - which one of our BIG wins was in a game where the opponent was missing players? I’ve felt like it’s the opposite. When the opponent is missing players we decide not to show up.

I don't get where all these posts are trying to rationalize our up and down(16-12) season. When you play 11 guys on the season, Geo 4500 career minutes, Ron 3400, Caleb 2400, Paul 2200, and 7(63%) of them have total career minutes of either a Sophomore or Freshman kind of minutes, Hyatt and Cliff around 1100 career minutes, Mag, Miller, Palm, Reiber, and Jaden in the.200-400 career minutes range. You end up with a season that you are able to win 4 straight against ranked opponents, start the season struggling against Lehigh, Merrimack, NJIT, lose three straight to @Depaul, Lafayette and @UMass, and win Clemson and #1 Purdue sandwiches a 35 pt loss to Illinois with no Geo. This is the same type of play we saw in 2018-19, but this team has way more talent than in 2018-19. What happens this year will exponentially grow this team forward in 2022-23 and beyond after Geo and Ron. Hopefully, we don't lose any of the 9 returning in the off season with Simpson and Woolfork joining. I'd prefer seeing 9 returning, 2 freshman unlike this season of 5 returning, 6 new players(1 Sophomore, 5 freshman) into the rotation.

Its all on recruiting. In general, four stars are more consistent in their performance. Coach has done a great job in taking these three star recruits and having them perform to the best of their abilities. Kudos to the players too for their hard work. But notice the incredible growth of Cliff. We need more players like him. Obviously there are outliers and a 4 star can not pan out and a 2 star can become all-conference. Still proud of the team.

Agree that our struggles are 90% recruiting. I do think that Pike does a very good job of getting the most out of the plaers he has. Problem is that he's starting with lesser talent.

This has nothing to do with recruiting or having or not having talent on the roster. It is a "you can't fast forward experience on the floor together all at once". When there is only 200 minutes(40 each position) each game over just say a 30 game season. Guess what you can only play 1200 minutes a season. It is the inexperience of playing with the other 4 players on the floor problem. Geo been there done that, Ron, Caleb, Paul, Cliff has 1100 minutes 5th most in a Rutgers uniform, why he is developing quicker, Hyatt also 1100 career minutes but Hyatt, Mag, Reiber, Miller, Jones, Palm only have 200-400 minutes each together are still learning to play with the vets, each other in practice and against a live opponent.

Guess what you can bookmark this. Next year 22-23, when we struggle against an experience mid to lower major at home because they might have 7 out of 9 upperclassmen playing together for 1000-2000 minutes together in their rotation, Compared to Caleb, Paul, Hyatt, Cliff, 5 So, 2 Fr. We will hear the same excuses of Fire Pike, these players suck, recruiting needs to improve, blah blah blah. Sometimes the opponent can just play together better than the other guy through playing experience together despite the talent gap, kind of why upsets happen in March Madness.

We are also fighting the NCAA bid streaks of many other teams over ours. Kansas 31, MSU 23, Gonzaga 21, Arizona, Kentucky, and Duke had long streaks ended, but overall dozens of schools have made it more than we have is a negative recruiting tool. We have to just fight through this, get back winning the last 2, into the B1G tourny and continue what should be our 3rd straight year in the Dance.
