Obviously a great hire after Evergreen botched the process the last time the job was open.

Excited to see what he will do with the alma mater.

On the bright side he will no longer be HF's minor league affiliate.
Yeah, now he can just be a minor league affiliate for Rice, and Rita, and Marist, and Laurence . . . oh yeah and your Alma Mater too! Only difference is that those kids will go right to the big club and skip the EP farm system.

Five head coaches in the last seven years.
I am sure the Evergreen Park faithful hope this time the HC is ... siempre verde.

I thought Laurence had been off of the EP parish radar. Maybe its back now?

STL has been using some of their "leadership" money on football along with baseball. Everyone is back in play for STL now.

I know they go toe-to-toe in Garfield Ridge/Clearing with Naz for baseballers.

Disabato is at it again with False reporting of the facts. 5 coaches in 7 Years????

Berry - 2008-2010 (3 Seasons)
Hartman - 2011-2013 (3 Seasons)
Mankowski - 2014-2015 (2 Seasons)

By my count that's 3 coaches in 8 years. You'd have to go back all the way to the 2002 season to get 5 coaches deep at EP. Way to fact check. What a Tool!

Wonder if he's counting Troy McAllister, who had the job for a few hours?

Naz got to 3A final in 2015, lost to downstate Highland. reached semis in 2012.
Correct. I meant didn't Marian of the Heights win 3A in baseball in 2012 or 2013?

And Naz and St. Francis do get bumped up to 4A for 2016.

I really don't think Ray was given a fair chance at the job. It was common knowledge they were on a down swing of talent.

Agree 100%...EP is the Montreal Expo's of high school football coaching in Illinois. The new guy will lose his mind and be gone in 3 years, #bookit

I know this has been implied before. I know that when this years junior class were freshmen they were loaded at Marian. Does anyone know how many kids from this years HF team transferred from Marian ?

Never should have left.
Yes.

However, it would be very, very hard to say no to your alma mater if you are still on good terms with the school. A lot of pride is involved and thinking you can change everything for the better.

I think once you then realize what your up against, the shine on the job quickly fades away and you realize what your dealing with.

Leaving CM was priority #1 for Verde. The Unit school district in Crete is a hot mess in the classroom and in athletics (see fired AD situation).

Mattio saw the writing on the wall and stepped down at the correct time.
Verde should have stayed at CM for one more year and could have filled a higher profile Public job like a Lockport, Evergreen, or Reavis.

Leaving CM was the best thing professionally and personally for him and his family. You'll see more of that to come from that place. Different culture there that people don't want to be apart of.

I agree with wild mustang Coach Ray spent his early years in coaching at Mt. Carmel and learned from some of the best . He needed little more time than 2 years , Evergreen is Junk show .

Agreed the CM Unit District is a disaster from the top down. Verde needed to leave ASAP.
Marian is definitely not the same place that when Verde was there as a student/player.
I just felt he could have been hired out of CM, instead of enduring the last 3 yeas at marian reall struggling to find wins.

But he had 2 straight years of getting players into Marian. But outside of the QB, pretty much everyone else left. Then this year their Frosh class wasn't very good and the only way they win a conference game in 4 years is to leave the ESCC.

I still wonder if the (mis)perceptions with regard to the Marian drug test are a tool used by the publics to dissuade potential recruits (see 2nd post). Strange that a whole couple of classes would vanish like that (only an event equal to Ford Motor leaving the south suburbs or Cook Co. GOV in a major downsizing might equal that impact for Marian overall enrollment).

Its not that strange as he brought in kids from public school districts that were nowhere near as stringent as the Nuns at Marian.

5 kids from MC went to HF and started for them this year. Heard when a lower level coach at MC left to go to HF, he got those 5 kids to go with him. MC needs to make a decision on what they want out of their football program. Either kill it off or invest into it and help the next coach succeed. Can't keep putting that product on the field.
It s a bit of an educational culture shock for the kids in that area to go from public junior high to MC. They aren't used to the rigor and have a hard time keeping up.
