I know it's our job as UK fans to hate every announcer and talk about their anti-UK bias but I really like Verne. I also like Nessler but I will miss Verne on CBS.
Not sure why or how anyone could hate Vern. Will be missed.

Disappointing news. Vern has been great in that role. Nessler is a great replacement though.

I have enjoyed hearing Verne as the voice of SEC Football on CBS. Lundquist and Donnelson are a great broadcasting team and make the games so much better to watch. It will be strange without him. At least his replacement is another familiar voice, Brad Nessler. No stranger to the BBN listening to his broadcasts of UK Basketball games on ESPN. I won't be missing SEC Football on CBS this year.

In 2007 we got B2B CBS game of the week broadcasts vs. LSU and Florida respectively. I was at both games but taped the broadcast. Vern was extremely complimentary of Kentucky throughout and IMO got more excited during those games then I can ever remember - at one point, I think during the Florida game he said he almost had a heart attack.

Vern has a great football voice and was a great ambassador for the game. I wish him all the best.

Just glad that he is still sticking around in some magnitude. Going to do basketball games, continue with the NCAA Tournament and golf broadcasts on CBS.

Verne was the Dallas ABC affiliate WFAA sports announcer in the 70s. He was celebrated then as one of the up and coming sports analysts whose career took him to well deserved accolades. His replacement, Dale Hansen, has been recognized many times for his honest sports editorials from the Cowboys and other area pro sports franchises to college sports (football) in the southwest.

Verne had an honesty and guy next door friendliness that transcended the airwaves to his audience. The man is a true professional in a time sports badly need more announcers that bring sports to audiences in honest terms.

I think Verne and Gary are the best announcing duo in all of college sports. I love hearing that intro music that CBS uses for its college football broadcasts. When you hear that song, you know you are about to witness an all out war, SEC style. It will be sad when Verne is no longer a part of that broadcast, as it is hard to visualize college football on CBS without him being a part of it

Verne was one of the best but his mistakes on broadcasts due to age has really wore the shine off of him the last couple of years. Similar to Pat Summerall when his eyesight deteriorated. I'll miss that voice on Saturday, but I think new blood is warranted.

Brad Nessler is the best possible replacement they could have come up with. He is IMO the most knowledgeable and articulate of the PBP guys. He doesn't have the pzazz of Vern but he does a fantastic job of calling the game.

I love Verne... But I think it was probably time. He's been messing up names something awful the past few years.

I love Verne as well, one aspect that I love is he doesn't over talk everything to death. As much as I love football and even the NFL sometimes there are not many announcers that I like. Todd Blackledge is horrible.

Vern is awesome for sure..... but if we have to lose him, I am thrilled it's Nessler replacing him! He's also one of my favorites.

I remember Nessler got his start here in Atlanta filling in for aging, legendary Georgia Tech announcer Al Ciraldo, then moved to calling Falcon games, before doing ABC college football games. I believe Van Note did color for him a few of those years. Nessler should be a great replacement for Vern and an excellent combination with Danielson.

That's sort of an apples to oranges comparison. Verne is PBP, Blackledge is Color - two different rolls. PBP calls the action, Color breaks it down into detail & adds insight.
