Has anyone had any experience in taking a pet to the vet school? I work with a lady whose dog has worms, but she can't afford the treatment. I told her the vet school may treat him at no cost, etc. I think I've heard of folks mention that they would. Anyone know more about this or if they do? thanks

My wife, who is in vet school at Auburn now, used our vet school at MSU for the dog we had while we were in college. She's really picky about where we take our dogs, and she loved the MSU vet school. Most of the time the techs do the check ups and stuff, but for the larger things more experienced people will take care of it. We got our 1st dog spayed there, and they did a really good job. We would have no problems taking our animals there again.

I took my dog there like four years ago and was way more expensive than any vet I've ever been to

$1200 for first chemo treatment and $200 /mo for additional treatments. That was probably 10 yrs ago, so no it aint cheap, no it aint free and yes my lab eventually died of cancer.

they do have student's working in there that do the initial exam, but then they have fully educated veteran doctors that come in and confirm everything. I think the fecal test (for parasites) is an extra $10 or so on the $60 exam. If you know the dog has worms (roundworm, whipworms, tapeworms), I would suggest getting a dewormer yourself like mjh94 suggests. It will clear them out in a day or two, but they usually suggest treating a second time about 2 weeks after the first.

My fiancee and I have a Westie that we took there for all of his shots. I never had any problems with them and their prices were the same as anywhere I have been before.

He did it as a learning experience with the lads on the FB team.No problem - happens all the time - the wife took the cat and me to the Vet once he had a two-fer that weekend. The cat took it much better than I did.

I no longer go out at night and get all scratched up though.
