Thank you to all that have served. I thank my father who served in the United States Navy during WWII and survived the battle of Leyte Gulf Philippines, he spent time in the water after his ship the USS Gambier Bay was sunk. I want to thank my two brothers who served in Vietnam, US Army and US Navy they are no longer with me but are in memory. To all I thank you for your commitment and to serve, God bless you all. I forgot to give a Big Thank You to my son who is in the Air Force who has chosen to make the Air Force his career, I guess my family has pretty much covered most branches except the Marines, sorry to "the few, The proud".

My great-grandpa fought in the Civil War, my grandpa was in WW1, my dad and FIL fought in the Korean War, my brother served in Vietnam, I served in the Air Force, I have one BIL who was in the Army, and 3 BIL's that served in the Air Force. My first cousin, a female, served in the US Navy and was the highest ranking NCO (E9) in the Navy, serving in the Pentagon under the Secretary of the Navy. She retired as head of the Naval Station in Jacksonville, and her dad, my uncle served and retired from the US Air Force.

Also, my brother in arms, a Husker board poster we know as Dragonraider served in the Air Force and he and I were stationed at Altus AFB, OK at the same time, although I never had the pleasure of making his acquaintance.

Everyone of us, better for having served.

One last thing to add, for my fellow veterans. If you had dependents during your service, after all is said and done with our thanks and free treats don't forget to thank and honor your family as well. I have the privilege of not only being a veteran, but the son of 2 veterans as well. My father retired after 28 years in the Marine Corps and my mother retired after 24 years in the Navy. The sacrifices we ask of our families is great as well. November is also the Military Family Appreciation Month. I was always proud, and still am, to grow up a 'military brat.' But it came with baggage and it took a toil on my siblings and I. I know it did for my wife and my children too. So it is with that perspective and experience that I always pay homage to my wife and kids on this day, because I wouldn't have been able to have my Marine Corps experiences and successes without their support and wisdom. I would have probably been on restriction or given duty every weekend.

I took this shot as I made my way to my wife's section. Also, took pic of my wife's tree (tree near my wife's gravesite). Today, I have been feeling that this day was not just my day, but it was "our" day. My wife was there for me on my first day in the Navy all the way through my deployment and to my discharge. She was there when I went to the VA. She was always proud of my service. Today would be the day that she would have made sure that I got my freebies (she was the frugal one) and was honored for my service. I was truly blessed!
