“In Phase III, we’re still talking about social distancing. I don’t understand how you can think about playing team sports while you’re social distancing.”

This quote may be the writing on the wall. We are gonna be social distancing until there is a vaccine.

We still will social distance, even after a vaccine. Many people aren't going to get it, at least right away, until it proves to be effective long term.

VHSL fall schedules for athletics and activities delayed

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The VHSL Executive Committee met in special session Thursday, June 25 for the purpose of discussing the FY2021 Budget and Fall Sports. With the Commonwealth currently in Phase II and moving to Phase III in the reopening process on July 1, VHSL staff did not bring forth any recommendations for fall athletic schedules. The VHSL Executive Committee did vote to hold additional meetings in July and August as more information becomes known.

“All our efforts are working towards advocating for the opening of sports and activities in a safe and reasonable way,” said VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun. “As we move forward, it would not be reasonable to release at this time a fall schedule or calendar until we learn more about future Phases.

“We are committed to getting this right and getting our students participating in activities,” continued Haun. “I think we can make a much better informed decision once we have more parameters and possible restrictions.”

In other business, the VHSL Executive Committee approved its FY2021 budget by a vote of 35-0-0.

Dear Mr Haun, there are no more future phases. Phase 3 is it. Next stop is the vaccine to end all phases. If they cannot make a decision now, just assume the season is called off. No sports until a vaccine. I just visited my doctor and he stated quite clearly a vaccine that works and then distributed will take to next year at this time. Down here Busch Gardens is closed as the CEO says a 1,000 limit under phase 3 is not economically feasible. They need between 5-7,000 visitors. Our local senators petitioned the Governor for a variance and it was denied. 4,000 are employed there when opened. Do you think the Governor cares one iota about HS football? No. HS sports are done until a vaccine is created and distributed. Social distancing is required and multiple touching of surfaces not allowed (like a football). The end, send all the players home.
