It would also be really weird seeing Alleghany in the Three Rivers District. They've been in the Blue Ridge since the early seventies, possibly late sixties - I think they're a charter member, unless I'm mistaken. Alleghany has always been kind of betwixt and between when it comes to districts, due to their location; there is no great fit for them, although the Blue Ridge comes closest. But man! The 3RD? That's going to be some increased travel. Those two-and-a-half hour (one-way) bus rides from Low Moor to Hillsville should make for some great team bonding. Alleghany's AD sounds hopeful that the change in districts is approved, even if the drop to 2A is not. I suppose they see the drop to 2A as inevitable somewhere down the line, and they're already viewing themselves as a 2A school from a competition standpoint? Otherwise, as with Christiansburg's desired switch to the 3RD, this is another move I'm not sure I get.
I didn't realize Blacksburg is moving back up to 4A. It will be interesting to see how their teams in cross country and track - so dominant in 3A - fare in the higher classification. Especially in cross country, where many NOVA schools are so strong.
