and Ogden having a great game at SS as well. I think our defense will be decent if not solid when all is said and done.

but he has made a couple of great plays at the corner. this also looks like it has shored up the defense with him at 3rd and Frost at second. We have played pretty good defense and pitched pretty well this weekend, but need to get some timely hitting when we play the SEC schedule.

Last time I checked, we've only scored less than runs twice so far this season. In one of those games we scored 4 runs. When you put up 5 runs or more almost every night, you should win a lot of games. Hopefully Vickerson will hold down 3B and shore up the D. If he can to that, I think we win 30 games or more. Hell, I'd worry about our freshman pitchers breaking down before I worried about our offense.

I really wish we had someone besides frost at 2nd.

In the first two innings we had the bases loaded with no outs. We scored 5 runs but only had one hit: the rest was Mich St wild pitching-- 6 walks and 2 hit by pitch. This will not get us wins in the SEC if we don't do a better job of timely hitting. I'm not complaining about our wins, but we are not hitting .300 as of yet (.298 comming into this game) and that needs to pick up.

to boost my Intenet cred.

Seriously, we may lose a little offense with Sneed and or Butler out of the lineup, but the only way that they can overcome their lack of defense is to put up Conner Powers type numbers. And they can't do that on a consistent basis of course.

Frost probably isn't ready for the SEC yet in terms of offense, but he can play defense, bunt, and steal bases. Based on what our defense was doing this year, and how our offense is doing so far, it is prudent to have a guy hitting .200 or so in the nine hole. I think Sam will get better offensively by the end of the year as he gets more at bats.

at this point. Mainly because we have a lot of JUCO guys that have kind of struggled a little bit at the plate, but are also guys that I think will be hitting fine by the end of the year. It's a big jump from JUCO to D-I- even if it is a SEMO State type team. Jaron Shepherd in particular is hitting better, and I think the other guys like Wes Thigpen, Trey Johnson, and Vickerson will get it going later this month or so. They just need at bats more than anything. Fortunately, we have guys like Conner Powers, Cody Freeman, Luke Adkins, and also Ogden who are hitting well and I think that they can carry us for a little while until the others catch up.

It also helps that our pitching isn't giving up 20 runs every game.

I also feel good because we are scoring runs despite not hitting a whole lot. That tells me that we are creating runs and are taking advantage of the other teams mistakes. That's a good thing. I actually get more worried when we have something like seven runs on 20 hits. I like for the runs/hits to be at a one run for every two hits ratio in a perfect world.

In the three previous games the Bulldogs have been outhit 28-22. However, I think everyone should be looking beyond the hits. In those three games State had 18 walks and 4 hit batsmen. The Bulldogs are getting on base.

We were batting .315 coming into the weekend. That was tied for 6th in the SEC. What stuck out to me was our fielding percentage of .945. Only 1 team was worse - Auburn at .931. Only 1 other team was anywhere close to that bad so far - UGA at .956. Now the average may have dipped a little over the weekend, but considering the number of runs put up so far this season, I don't see how you can ***** about the offense. Defense has EASILY been the biggest problem when looking at the numbers. Shore up the D and the rest should take care of itself.

and also, we are bunting a LOT better than we did in previous years. That's something that is not reflected in the batting average stat, but it's also something that helps us to move people into scoring position and stay out of douple play situations.
