Why is that a rule? When you fumble out of bounds normally they just bring it back to where it was fumbled.

you can see the spirit of an angry Indian literally emerging from Scott Field to make sure the ball went into the endzone before going out of bounds.

to keep people from fumbling on purpose to advance the football in the endzone. i think. not certain though. it would make more sense to give it to the fumbling team on the 1
