This is kind of funny. Was Barnhart supposed to see into the future, understand how Louisville would create a position solely to avoid contractual penalties - and then draft contract language around that?

This thread is a good summation of UK fans. “Marrow is totally washed, hasn’t done anything for years, I’m glad he’s gone. And Barnhart needs to be fired for letting him go.”
For me, I think I was saying VM should have left for that position. I think Eddie Gran is UK GM or similar position. Good luck to the guy. No reason to have hard feelings just because he went to UofL. Heck if that is the case I better hate on one of my own as they went to UofL over UK.

If he is not considered a coach at u6, can he still recruit?
He was recruiting for Nebraska as a grad asst or something he wasn’t a full fledged asst there. I think schools just have the leeway to have x number of labeled recruiters in their staff wherever it comes from.

$30 million reasons.

Mitch gave Stoops a contract that is so one sided toward the coach, that the UK football program is held hostage to Coach Stoops. That buyout was BEYOND RIDICULOUS!!! So we are stuck with him for at least 2 more seasons.
That won’t happen. This will be Stoops’ last season. Write it down. He and Mitch probably already have something worked out.

It isn’t spinning. I have said it for a few years. What you’re saying isn’t true. The majority of the better players on the team are not his recruits. The narrative that every good player on the team is marrow recruit is false. I’m waiting to see something different. Wallace was a sumrall recruit. I seen where mentioned guys from 5-6 years ago. Wandale went to Neb and we got lucky he transferred back.

The guys you mentioned were great but if it wasn’t for the guys like McCall, Rogers, Square, Wallace, etc that led those Ds they don’t win 10 games. Clink brought in most of the top Michigan recruits, Sumrall Ga/Bama. I will add the LBs and DBs that Vince has brought in the last few years haven’t been developed the way they were before. Like it or not there has been a drop off in recruiting and development since sumrall and clink left. You can see it on the field. That coupled with the discipline that has been shown has been a disaster
Vince was more important to UK football than stoops. He handled everything. He was the buffer between the players and stoops. He was the guy who was connected in recruiting circles. He had the ear of the donors. He was the closer. Oh and by the way, do you know who hand delivered jasper johnson to pope? It was Vince.

The last two seasons top to bottom have been subpar to say the least. That includes Vince along with everyone else. But if UK football is to climb out of the hole it would do it on Vince's back. If a kid is in his living room with UK football who do you think is gonna close the deal, stoops, grann, or vince? Well now we have stoops and grann. Woof. Sumrall was a great recruiter at UK too. But is he here?

I think this is the end of the road for stoops and I think he knows it. That explains why he made no big staff changes including Wofford who we all thought was toast. like, what's the point?

I’ll give you a hint. He had a pretty long career with the Bucs.
I also forgot to even mention Josh Allen. It's just typical of sports fans to downplay the folks that walk out on the program. It's a coping mechanism

I was thinking White and/or House, recruited Allen.
It was DJ Eliot. He knew someone in New Jersey that recommended giving him a look not much before signing day. They still had a spot or so left so he flew up there. Marrow did quite a bit but somehow over the years he’s just been given credit for every kid we’ve signed when it hasn’t been him. His contribution was in giving us a broad base of solid Ohio kids to have some depth in classes. Occasional high level guy but it was Clink, Sumrall and some others adding in the high end dudes in many cases. Several high end oline guys we had for a stretch were recruited by schlarman.

I agree. I thought Ansley should be in there with Clink and Sumrall. Marrow got some really good players, not all panned out, the DE from Trinity who’s name escapes me, he should have been a stud but lacked work ethic. Marrow filled out the roster most years with good players that needed a couple of years in the system.

Edit: Hatcher

I knew he had a bunch of players landed but forgot about some of them, so I went and looked it up. I was surprised how many players we are going to be counting on this year and next.

Martels Carter
Smith Twins
Jäger Burton
Terhyon Nichols
Brian Robinson
Williee Rodriquez
Cutter Boley
Alex Afari

A name that I attributed to Brad White but Marrow is actually listed as the primary. Josh Pascal

No reason to have hard feelings? The guy left for our in state rival in secret just before the season started. Stabbed in the back his best friend, the program, and a fanbase that adored him.

There isnt a reason to not have hard feelings.

You nailed the depth. Vince was prolific in the number of guys be brought in, but they were rarely the stars. In his very short time at UK, wolf brought in way more high level guys.

Im going to guess this whole drama had nothing to do with Gran. Vince and gran were together a long time. My guess is the drama was with wolf.

Just think about the timing. This happened just after wolf got the extension and his voice would be the only threat in the recruiting room.

A job is a job is a job. What if he left for Cincinnati, Tennessee, Akron. That is not stabbing Stoops in the back, that is not leaving a friend behind. How much loyalty is there for a friend before you can leave them. I mean I have been friends with several people since we were 6 years old. Now I am 60. I was actually paid by the same company twice (with friends that owned one of the companies) but we moved on. Guess what we are still all friends. Once someone leaves UK (Because we are talking about KENTCUKY SPORS), I do not care where they go and what they do. I do not hate them, I do not care any more. They are no longer my emotional worry (for games or anything else), when we face the team we they are now with I hope we beat the snot out of them. The rest of the year I could care less. He did not do anything to me or any single person on here by leaving UK. He simply made a job decision. He said hey I do not want to be here next year because if it all goes south (which is a 60/40 chance) he would not have a job. You ever make a business decision that made someone hate you? You ever make a business decision where you wish you would have left earlier than you did. I know I have.

1. I like Vince more than most on this thread now.....but the face of recruiting has drastically changed since NIL and portal are part of the game nowadays. So if this boils down to way more about NIL and giving guys starting spots in portal....i guess the role of HS recruiting is diminished adn relationship building (which I think Vince is good at)....means less now than it once did.
2. So then player identification is a bigger need from portal scouting...to which I'm not sure Vince is strong at....his main contacts was getting back on kids that didn't choose UK out of HS and keeping in touch that way.
3. I do feel the poo/poo on talent level is not all that fair to Vince......guys like Silver, Walker, Ox, Rybka, DJack, Hairston, Key, Barion, Dingle, ....every UK fan was imagining Vandagriff would be like Levis 2.0, etc.... Those guys were wanted by many other schools and it was some *** coaching on offense that submarined that season from the start along with kids didn't play well (i.e. QB play was bad, Oline as really bad)..

Let's be fair here....Levis was pretty good in year 1...and year 2 hits along with Scangerello....and he's not close to as good. But Levis didn't get worse as a QB....it was clearly coaching. And I think the player development, coaching, etc... Losing Sumrall, Clink, Coen, Schlarman are guys that we've replaced with Mike Stoops, Yenser, Wolford, Buffano (I do like Collins though).

But my final point on Vince.....
1. It's been clear to anyone that wants to see it...Stoops has run his course at UK. Last year was the final nail in that coffin. So, I don't blame Vince to see it and want to keep his career going.
2. UK should just save that salary we were paying Vince and low ball the next coach and save that salary differential to pay for Stoops crazy buyout after this disastrous year.
Better off hiring some HS coach and pay him half a million. Would likely do a better job than Stoops at this point. Don't some of these private schools like trinity pay and recruit their players? We could get some big time hs head coach and pay him a low ball salary for 3 years, if it doesn't work out let him go, if it does, pay the man. Would be better than hanging onto Stoops at this point.

If he went anywhere else, no one would be nearly this upset.

It's just as well. I always confused him with Vic Marrow anyway.
