I am not saying Gruden is an impossibility, but damn that would be something if they pulled that off. He has ties to UT, who knows. Gruden in the SEC would be INTENSE.

...if Gruden wanted to come to the SEC. Heck man...we've got the largerst damn video board on the planet! Gruden could look up there and admire himself for three and half hours!!

The NFL and college both require different skill sets for both coaches and players. Well surely an NFL player would kick *** in college. But great college players usually don't rack it up in the NFL. Same with coaches. Great college coaches more often than not flop in the NFL. And going the other way, NFL coaches usually don't make a big splash in college.

I'd be no more excited about getting Chuckie to come to MSU than I would be about acquiring an average college coach.

There are other NFL stars who weren't complete standouts in college that have done very well on the pro level. Just sayin'</p>

Dennis Erikson, etc.

While I agree there is some disconnect between college and pros in terms of coaching, Gruden would be a different deal altogether. Gruden is not "washed up" or a retread. This is a relatively young guy who has already won a super bowl and is doing pretty well this year with an average team. This is a guy that the Bucs "traded" draft picks for just for his coaching ability.

I am not saying he is Lombardi or anything. He is probably in the 2nd or 3rd tier of current NFL coaches though.

He's been a successful college coach almost his whole life except for a brief failed stint as an NFL coach. Carroll is the exception to the rule, just like Jimmy Johnson was the exception to the rule. But the general rule is that coaching and NFL team is nothing like coaching a college team. Just because you're good at one doesn't mean you'll be good at the other (and it doesn't necessarily mean you won't be either).
