I'm pretty sure our team hasn't won a set (yes a SET, not just a MATCH) in Conference play since the 2012 season.

They are awful and seem to just be getting worse. Jenny Hazelwood has got to go.

We've always been terrible at volleyball, no matter who the coach is. Hard to recruit when not that many high schools in Mississippi play volleyball and you play in a horrible facility.

We were 3-15 in the conference last year, winless the year before that (0-20), and 7-13 in 2011.

This season, they have already lost to such power houses as Bakersfield, Sam Houston State, La-Mo Miami[OH], Indiana, USA, Memphis, North Dakota, SIU-Edwardsville, and Pacific.

Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. They were beat by a school that has a city AND a direction in their name!

I do have to retract my previous statement about not winning last year. They actually went 3-15 in conference play and 12-20 overall. However, those are the only three conference wins since 2011 (they were 4-25 and 0-20 in conference in 2012).

I do understand that it's a Title IX program, so we can't just kill the program, it's not a money earner, so we're not going to spend a ton on a good coach, but surely we can do better than this.
Croom wasn't even this bad.

The problem has been transfers year after year. The team last season that managed to win 3 matches was young and would have been a decent veteran team, but all of the best contributing players transferred out, so the team is young once again. It's hard to compete that way.

The lack of club volleyball in Mississippi hurts as well. Keeps us from recruiting local players that would have better odds of staying 4 years.

That said, any coach that goes winless year after year in any of our sports shouldn't get a free pass. I hope she somehow gets them competitive.

I've watched a number of volleyball and soccer matches on the new sec internet network and we are not good in either sport. Will likely go winless in the sec in both sports. Just not competitive. I've watched some of the other home team facilities and they have well lit arenas, good crowds, pep bands, and when you look at our facility it looks like a dungeon.

One thing State has become good at is darkening the fan areas so nobody can see all the empty seats.

Having said all that, it's no secret that State threw crumbs at the minor sports for decades ,because we had no money having the smallest budget in the sec. State used the money they had to try to compete in the major sports.

I went to a volleyball game when I was at State and there was a bucket sitting out close to the court catching a water drip from the ceiling. What decently talented player is going to want to play in a building that's dark and drips water? It's a pathetic facility and embarrassing.

Its shocking that not many schools play volleyball, perhaps because I grew up in a state with boys and girls HS volleyball(IL) and live in a state with HS volleyball and lots of girls club too(IA).

Its an incredibly cheap game- perfect for struggling HS athletic budgets. The space needed already exists(a basketball court), so all that's needed is a net and some balls.

I've heard that several of the players who quit or transferred blamed the coach. One of our best players quit during the season recently and said that the coach had ruined the sport for her. I don't know what that means exactly, but when this sort of thing happens this frequently, there is something obviously wrong.

As far as the facilities, they could certainly be improved, but a couple of years ago, there was some work done to improve lighting, etc., so it's not quite as bad as you may remember if you haven't been there in a while.
