I think its going to be a great game. Dawson will get his yards but they also have another back over 1000 yards too. I'm gonna go with the Eagles though as I think they are more battle tested from games with Essex, Colonial Beach, Rappahannock, King William and King George. Plus never underestimate a Todd Jones coached team. I say W&L 32 PM 26

All I herd last night from abc news 13 in lynchburg was on how Bad PM wants Altavista,but im guessing they are for getting they need to get pass a good W&Lee team first.Which i don't think they will.

An Altavista- PM matchup is very interesting, but Central and W&L might have something to say about that. Centrals losses were to 3 very good football teams, and PM is physical and they have a couple of stud backs, with one being a man among young men. W&L is well coached and they seem to have come out of a tough district this year. Altavista has one of those teams that come around once every 20 or so years.......Thornhill is beyond description......but any of these teams can beat them if the Colonels stub their toe...(ask someone from Hidden Valley)...Just when you think you have things figured out some team comes around and throws a monkey wrench into your theories.....that to me is why HS Football is a great game!!

All I also HEARD on ABC 13 was come on down to Lynchburg Nissan and get a car! MMQP is right the hosts of the show said that, trust me the PM players are focused on one game at a time, they do not look past anyone! I believe this will be a well fought game from both teams. PM has a tough run defense so it should be a good test for W&L. There is also another back at PM that compliments Dawson well, he wears #10 and is very fast, just when you think you have the run game of Dawson under control they hit you with #10. That is something PM has not had in a long time is another back that can take the pressure off of Dawson! I am going with the score PM 34 W&L 22.

All four 1A East games look to be good matches, but this PM at W&L game should be the game of the week. As others have said already, if Dawson can be contained (he cannot be stopped just controlled) than W&L can win. PM has some others weapons this year (another good back and some passing game) so it will not easy. Essex keyed on Dawson last season and he still got 3 TDs and played great D. He is a horse and its said he is a nice young man. Essex just had to outscore them to win.

Also, you might want to prepare your boys for some possible colorful language on the field. You do not want to lose the game on some retaliation penalties. Tell them to just laugh and walk away. I'll leave it at that.

oh, to the few rude PM folks that cussed out our coach after the game, Essex has some showers now if W&L's facilities are not good enough for you. Just stop on by the way home. Plus, we were able to afford some soap for that foul language as well.

I just joined the other day to try to get some info on brackets but i find myself really enjoying all of the posts. I know very little about any team except my PM Blues. This being my forth and final year of my sons games. I guess anything I say has to be taken knowing I am a proud PM parent. For one these boys are NOT saying they WANT Altavista. If thats the next game then they will prepare for them and do their best. As a fan I believe that Altavista and PM is the state championship. I hope that Central beats Altavista but I know they wont. Prediction Altavista-48 Central-12. As a parent and after attending every Blues game for 4 years I am really hoping for another PM-Essex matchup because of the way Essex ran there mouths and acted last year when they beat us. PM has a bunch of boys that have been playing together since childhood and this is their senior season.Last year they were all juniors except for 2 starters. The news channels around here (especially wset) are all about Altavista because they are from Lynchburg. Last year Dawson was leading every week in the player of the year voting and it came up at the end Thornhill winning. Thornhill is good but he better hope Dawson doesn't get a good shot on him. As for W and L this week I cannot wait to go. They have a very good team from every thing I have looked at. I guess I am allowed to brag some and make my prediction to entice some dialog. One thing is for sure, I'm gonna miss being in the East bracket next year. It's been a pleasure playing schools that I used to only read about and wondering how PM would stack up against. Now it'll be back to playing schools from SWVA..minus the historic programs like Appalachia and Clintwood (sadly).

I will end with this, its been amazing to see the turnaround that has happened in BV. The school should have never allowed emphasis to shift to basketball the way they did after Coach Bobby Williams got sick and had to retire in '94. Wasted a lot of talent and years when they did that. Nice to see the emphasis is back where it belongs, football.


I hope to see you guys in Salem in a few weeks. But if we fall before then, then it is what it is. We have one heck of a bracket that we have to battle through.

I think I'm gonna try that Mexican restaurant in Montross on Friday night. I hope its Don Tequila-caliber..

W&L and PM should be a good one. PM is more experienced and has the best player on the field on their team. W&L will have the better athletes overall. W&L's run defense is pretty good, but they haven't seen anyone near the caliber of Dawson at running back. And they have seen some good RB's this year. You can beat both of these teams with the pass. W&L has one really good WR that can break a game open and a QB that is a gamer. If W&L wants to keep this one close, then they have to put it in the air.

I am routing for the eagles in this one, but I think ultimately PM will come out on top. To the PM fans who thought Essex had bad fans, well have fun at the eagles nest!

mmqp, just because someone posted with incorrect spelling, it certainly doesn't make them a moron. If that were the case, half the people on preps would be categorized by you as morons. Justin Feldkamp reported....."I was at PM practice in August, and they wanted a piece of Altavista." That's a direct quote. So, if it wasn't the coaches or the players, who was it? PM have an abundance of people running around at practice before the season starts speaking for the team? And if they did say it, so what? Who WOULDN'T "want a piece" of the reigning state champions and owners of the current longest winning streak in 1A? We'll be fortunate if PM and AHS get to face each other in a couple of weeks, looks like it should be a good ball game. Until then, voice your opinion, lay off the name calling.

All I can say to you sir is that I haven't heard anyone from gretna on here the last several weeks or so unless they were complaining about their coaching staff....where are yall? As far as Dawson getting a clean shot on Thornhill what are you saying? Do you want Dawson to hurt him, if so then that is really mature, but I can promise you this Thornhill and ALL of the Colonels can take a hit as well as give one, if you don't believe that ask anyone from Essex. Dawson was 1st in voting all year for the WSET player of the year till the last week is what you said, how do you know that? Was it because that's how their names were called? If you had paid attention then you would have realized that the names were in alphabetical order, or if you are going by the fan voting then again had you paid attention you would know that fan voting is only part of the final decision.

I can promise you this the players and staff in Altavista are not looking at PM, they are concentrating on Central, and I hope that the players and staff in Buena Vista are concentrating on W&L. If it works out that the boys from PM get to make the drive to Altavista then we will be ready, until then good luck to all teams and have safe travels.

I really hope that my Grammer and spelling was ok with all the folks in Buena Vista.

On a side note Altavista is not from Lynchburg, now the local news is WSET, and they may know a little more about the Colonels since we are 20 minutes south, but the last time that I went to Buena Vista through Lynchburg it was only about 45 minutes from Lynchburg. So I am not sure what your statement meant saying Altavista is from Lynchburg.

I know for a fact that PM is not looking ahead. Coach Craft's motto this year has been one game at a time. PM is focusing on W-L Montross now, and AltaVista should be worried about Central Lunenburg.

I can assure you that Parry McCluer is worried about one school right now, Washington & Lee. I can assure you that the Colonels are worried about only one team, Central.
Why you felt the need to run your mouth and try to stir up sh*t is beyond me. The players and coaches from Buena Vista have nothing but respect for the Altavista program. I can assure you of that. If PM made it their goal to win state before the season started then that is great. That's what ALL programs should strive for.

Altavista is a good team and yes Essex does know that. I wonder why there is a need to ask Essex about how hard Altavista hits? What about anyone else who has played Altavista? I know Essex knows Altavista puts on their uniform the same way as anyone else, and have never been afraid for a rematch against anyone. Sometimes the hype is faded the second time around. In fact Essex has a rematch this week against Rappahannock. Huge match up.

Are all the 1A East games this Friday at 7 pm? Like I mentioned, I am going to the Essex v Rapp game (of course). Will Essex come out hungry and pumped up or because of their recent playing & big win come out flat while the Raiders are hungry for the upset? Rapp has some strong weapons and is riding a wave of confidence. Could be a lot closer than the last one?

I would love to see PM and W&L battle. Since PM has a long trip, sometimes they move it to Saturday. That would be great.

Besides a great game, also, it would be good to see because just in case PM is the winner they will most likely head to Altavista (to better gauge the strength of both the Blues and Altavista from that result). Either way, we can read about the details in the paper.

Being from the N' Neck, I am pulling for the Eagles to be able to win. Eagles are the higher seed and at home but PM is 11-0 and has Dawson. Not sure which team winning would be the upset with this one? Will be interesting to see the pick em from all the neutral fans for this battle.

As for the Altavista v PM talk, I take it there in no love lost between those two teams. Is there a strong history there? Or schools with a fairly close proximity both being undefeated wanting to go at it?

I would assume the game is Friday. I'm looking forward to seeing the Northern Neck for the first time ever. Might try to arrive earlier and check out Colonial Beach.

As for the game, I don't like to make predictions one way or another. I wouldn't be surprised if PM wins. And I wouldn't be surprised if W & L wins. Just looking forward to an exciting matchup.

There really is no heated rivalry between Parry McCluer and Altavista. If you want the truth, PM picked up Altavista in 2003 to guarantee a win for that season. They had just come off their one and only winless season (unless you count the 1936 in which they started out 0-2 and had to fold due to not having enough players..) and their schedule was LOADED at that time; 3 AA schools, Bath, Riverheads, Gap, James River was great at that time and Craig had just had their first .500+ season since 1983-ish. So PM got their win vs. Altavista...I wasn't joking earlier when I said you couldn't buy a Colonel fan before 2007, I was at the 2003 game and they had less than 5 fans in the stands. I'm dead serious. PM won that year and the next year, the Colonels won in 2005 and PM won in 2006. Altavista won the next four meetings handily.

I'm not sure why these couple of guys started in on us...I have noticed some pot shots at PM's schedule over the last couple of weeks from the one guy. But once again, we cant control the fact that the bottom fell out at Bath and Rockbridge. Both schools are usually strong. Gap gave Goochland a fight for the first half the other night.. PM had blown them out by halftime. Page is baaadd. But Covington is pretty darn good. I'm mad we played Roanoke Catholic, but it is what it is. I don't understand why they're so worried about us.

No I didn't think that their was any history other than the few years that the two played during the regular season. So to be honest I'm not sure where all this negativity is coming from, other than one poster from Altavista said that he saw that PM wanted Altavista.... (not sure where that came from either)

Why ask Essex? Because they were the last team that Altavista played that underestimated them. That's why.....

So, to go back to the question. I think PM wins this one easier than people think. I am going to base this off the Essex/W&L game I saw, but the Eagles didn't seem like an elite team that day. Dawson is better than Essex's backs and they couldn't contain them.

To PM fans, first off, the W&L fans I saw where nice. If you're traveling, bring a folding chair or be prepared to stand and wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty there are only a handful of visiting bleachers (sitting in the baseball infield).

Also go to paunce's seafood (I think that's the right spelling) and get the crab dip, all of the crap dip. While at the game get a crabcake. You can get hotdogs/nachos anywhere take advantage of being on the Northern Neck.

Good suggestion MrJ82- Faunce Seafood has two locations- Montross and Warsaw- excellent fresh seafood - fish, steamed crabs (#1 Jimmy), oysters and such. Dips are great too like the crab and shrimp cheese dip - we always pick something up on the way down to Potomac or Rappahannock rivers - family and friends Summer pier & beach gatherings - fishing, kids swimming, jet skis flying, good times there.

Crab cakes are awesome at the W&L game- Yes, most everyone is very nice- always a few bad apples anywhere you go.

As for Dawson- at the game last year, people talked about imagining having him playing for Essex (adding to the great talent already or in your case, Altavista). How high division playoff wise could you go?

You are right on! Lets just do what PM does. No fancy uniforms, no great media coverage, our guys dont say much. We will travel well with our Blues wherever we have to go. Thats what I love the most about these Blues squads. They're quiet, no mouthing. Score a TD, hand the ball to the ref and move on. After games a huge prayer circle. I'm not even religious but I love seeing that type of camaraderie displayed after games. I have taken great pride in showing the folks I work with here in NoVA the pics of those prayer circles...even the libbies.

So for some big mouth clown to accuse the players and coaches of something that isn't true (and then call them scrubs?), well that boils my blood. I think what the clown was referring to was when asked what their goals were for the year, one of the players said their goal was to win a state title. What's wrong with that?? Should the goal have been to go 5-5 or something? The young man who said that is a class act and he of all people knows what its gonna take to win that title. We all know its not gonna be a walk in the park.

For all the W&L, Essex, Altavista fans sitting back reading all this, I can assure you that the Blues respect your programs. Considering how bad PM was just 4-5 years ago, its an honor to be considered among the states elite again.


As for some of the PM fans getting rowdy.. I think every fanbase has that. It's one of the downsides of success. You will also find many knowledgeable fans amongst us as well. And if you find one of the old timers you can hear some fascinating stories from games of yesteryear.

I don't know what happened at the Essex game last season, I had just bought my jeep and the stupid thing broke down on me (my very first "off roading" experience in it was watching it get lifted on the rollback truck.. smh) so I didn't make it. But I say let the bygones be bygones. Its a new year with some exciting football ahead!

I think Dawson shines at a place like PM where he can be a stud. (Though PM's #2 RB is getting it this year as well) If you put him at Altavista you've added to the current problem, too many skilled position stars and not enough snaps. There are three key players in other good teams around the area that have Altavista transfers. (Heritage's starting QB, Brookville's RB Myers and of course JF's Navy Jones). They all started high school at Altavista and left for one reason or another. Putting a beast like Dawson in the backfield only compounds the problem. I don't know how much better Dawson is verses #7 Destin Brown. (For the record/ a qualifier Brown is getting D1 looks but he doesn't get the headlines because he shares a backfield with Thornhill - and there is also Clydale Moon). But on Essex, that would suck for everyone else. Essex running backs, while good (maybe even very good) weren't great.. and if you through Dawson on that team, I think they'd gone 11-0 and be the favorites.

I think that WL should win this one. That being said Pm seems to play a very well. They Know how to play the game well. Their team works well together. They don't have the crazy athletes that make huge plays but, they know how to find a way to win. If every team worked as hard as PM the lvl of game play would go up in single A. On the PM Altavista match. I think Altavista Would win But, it would be interesting to see these teams go at it. They approach the game from total different perspectives. Alta just goes out there and plays ball with their players. PM goes out and plays the game with their plays. If Alta were to stub their toe it sure would make things interesting.

I don't have a dog in the fight and my personal opinion on 1A sports will be kept to myself because I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. Just a couple comments, if you are watching abc 13 Football Friday, you are wasting your time. The best high school football show around is WDBJ7 FFE, has been for over 30 years and always will be. Secondly, PM went through some rough football times in the last 10 years and I admire them for fighting through it and rebuilding and not taking an easy way out like some and going independent and playing a joke of a schedule for a few years. Finally, whether it is PM or WL that Altavista plays next week, I'm sure the players for either team are legit and haven't been held back during middle school for athletic purposes.
