I think we win this recruiting battle but I think Kenny Payne is going to make it very difficult. Considering what Cal did for his dad years ago at Memphis, I think that will be a big factor in this recruitment. I know Payne is like family to the Wagners, but with his limited head coaching experience compared to Cal’s, I would think that would be the more rational move to pick UK.

He brings up a good point. Frankly there are a bunch of unknowns out there in the coaching ranks now. 10 years ago this was a much different environment.
If we don’t get one of 2 guys, or coax Jay Wright out of retirement, the odds are highly favorable that we end up with an average coach. Average coaches get fired. Almost all coaches get fired except for a very elite few. To some it’s worth the risk.
If Mitch strikes out we’ll be in that boat and have to hope for a diamond in the rough. This isn’t 1982 the program doesn’t make the coach anymore. BCG should’ve been a lesson taught.
Oh, if there was a way of verifying that you, a dumb chump, would actually keep your word, then I'd put it up there. But there is no referee for self-ban bets on this board and you know it. Only one of us is honest enough to admit that.
I appreciate the thoughtful response. But my position is that when it's determined a change has to be made, you make it and damn the consequences. If we are truly a destination school we should have no fear of not finding a coach. At the same time, if we know Cal cannot lead us to the promised land we shouldn't let him linger a moment longer. I understand that last part is still up for debate and I enjoy the debate. But under no circumstances should we be governed by fear, especially of the unknown.
Agree with you...wouldn't blame the kid for going to U6, but l think he ends up at a place like Michigan for a year.

One aspect of this is that UL is looking like they will struggle this year. They had 10 guys contribute last year and 7 of them are gone. As of now, Payne has only gotten Brandon Huntley-Hatfield to pair with a couple 4-star freshmen and a lackluster returning roster.
