I remember him being named first team by Football News or some publication like that. The only reason I know this is that his photo was on the "First Team All-America" wall at South Stadium. I thought that was odd but when I looked it up, it was correct.

Yes he was very good I believe he holds or was record holder of TD passes in a game, it sucks getting old I think was either against Ucla or Oklahoma State I'm sure someone out there will correct me

I remember it was 5 TD passes, don’t remember who it was against (UCLA does seem familiar). That record was broken by Joe Ganz against K State I believe.

It was against UCLA and TO was fuming after because Ken Norton Jr was stuffing our run so bad we had to throw. TO hated that.

Steve Taylor was really good. He was a big reason we stayed in the ten consistently through the late-mid eighties. I know he earned national player of the week awards several times. I think he earned third team all American in most big publications.

I remember TO sitting him in the sugar bowl for a series. He was off and after a little talking to on the bench he came out blazing. I've been thinking about that move a lot lately.

Steve Taylor in terms of Husker history is underrated....IMO. Agree with another post stating you could have inserted him into any of the championship teams and the results are the same. Had a rocket for an arm too.

Agree about Taylor being very talented. I always thought he would have been an even better passer if NU had used the shotgun in those days, but I believe he was always under center.

He would be outstanding now.

My favorite QB in Husker history behind Tommie.

He might be your #2 favorite, but not many people would put him above Gill in terms of performance. And if TO hadn't handed Miami the NC with the unnecessary, failed two point conversion attempt, Turner would be held in even higher esteem.

Steve Taylor was a really good quarterback...no doubt about it.

However I think Gerry Gdowski could have ended up with a better career if he would have been the starter in 87 and 88. His 1989 season was tremendous. Just think if Gdowski would have redshirted and played in 1990?

Those were the days. Winking

Maybe so, but the schedule Gdowski faced in 1989 did not compare to the Taylor years. Taylor faced some brutal non-conference schedules in addition to a couple of really great OU teams.

Has anyone seen him lately? The last time I saw him I told him it looks like he could still play. He just laughed.

I was fairly young when he played but I have great memories of my grandpa (long deceased) yelling at the TV that Taylor carried the football like a sack of bread. Whatever that means! A few years ago he was at my office for a meeting and my partner mentioned that I had two sons who were big Nebraska fans - Taylor opened his briefcase and whipped out a photo of him "in action", autographed it and gave it to me. He had a stack of them in there! How many times a day on average does that happen in his life?
