There's nothing new about the concept of sports urbanism. Every new major stadium built in this country is built as part of a larger development that includes retail, restaurants, hotels, and housing. The Fireflies stadium in Columbia is a decent example - it's not just a stadium surrounded by parking lots. Look at the condos that have grown up around Williams-Brice in the last decade or so. And now the university has hundreds of acres of land between the stadium and the river. Rest assured, that land isn't going to be a nature preserve.
