Wow. Turning down a chance to go to AFA? I'm a die hard Husker fan, but if my son had a chance to go there.....it'd be hard for me not to push him to go there. Hipe he turns out to be the next Spencer Long.

My son would need surgery to remove my boot from his *** if he did that, but it's safe to assume the whole family was in on this decision and obviously signed off
on it. To each their own, and welcome young man. Welcome the the Big Red, I don't have to understand it to like the addition.

Not everyone wants to serve in the military. I don't know his family's financial situation or if he has a future for football beyond college, but his dream may be to play for the Huskers. Pretty cool to chase that while you are attending school.

I'm as big of a supporter of the military as anybody, but the military isn't for everybody. Just because you get an offer from a service academy doesn't necessarily mean you should take it. Better to decide now that it isn't what you want than go there and take somebody else's spot and then discover it isn't right for you. There's nothing wrong with wanting to play for your homestate school over the military either.

I could be mistaken but I doubt the AFA just carpet bomb recruits football players. In order to have an offer, one would have had to at least shown interest in attending the Academy and started the process to gain acceptance. So I don't think we can pretend that the kid had minimal interest and they were just hot on his trail.

I agree. Which is why I think that ultimately his decision was more football based than academics based. I think the kid wants a shot at playing big time D-1 football and he thinks he can. I think that is a good sign

Not necessarily true, I coached a kid this year that had an offer to Army and was never really interested in attending because he had already been offered by Arkansas, which is where he is committed.

Know a lot of fellas that have attended USAFA. I would not take that military academy experience over going to a flagship university to play Big 10 football, walk-on or full ride. The military is always there for after graduation if he wants to serve then.
