There is quite a bit of in-state talent in the 2019 class. It will be interesting to see how many in-state scholarships Frost gives out. Pelini made the mistake of trying to get some kids to walk-on, and they ended up taking a scholarship somewhere else (Bazata at Iowa comes to mind).

We have Nelson and Snodgrass committed for 2019, and Hickman and Henrich from Burke have offers. Piper and Kautz from Norfolk Catholic are also two guys to watch (Piper just got an Iowa offer; Kautz ran a 4.38 electronically-timed 40, and a 10.3 100m). That is 6 in-state guys that are legit P5 level recruits.

In 2020, you have Zavier Betts from Bellevue West, who might be one of the best WR prospects to ever come out of Nebraska.

The cost of college should NOT an excuse for walk-ons.

1. Apply like crazy for other scholarships a year before high school graduation.
2. In state tuition is low.
3. It doesn't hurt to work during the summer and save money.
4. Many walk-ons quit after the first year knowing they're not good enough.
5. Work for a football scholarship; not have it given to you.
6. Non contributing scholarship players need to be vetted
7. It won't hurt to borrow some loan money.
8. Go to community college to reduce amount of credit hours
9. Ask relatives or coaches to help you raise tuition money.
10 Live with parents or someone you know to reduce costs.
My gawd, you CANNOT blame people for taking a football scholarship elsewhere or saying tens of thousands of dollars is an "excuse", so dumb to try to make decisions for people just so you could potentially have more enjoyment on Saturdays. So dumb.

The biggest impact frost will have is on in state scholarships. There are numerous players starting for major programs who were either not offered or slow played by old staffs. Frost will prioritize these types of players.

Phillips
Bazata
Fant
Ghafan (spelling?)
Rush
Johnson
Arnold
deluca
And perhaps even an urzendowski.

I dont think the walk on program will see any massive changes other than the mentality that walk ons are treated the same and spots arent guaranteed just because you have a scholly.
The biggest impact is that frost will take high school football in nebraska seriously and wont slow play our guys just for last second deflections, and wont try to always get them on the cheap.

The locker room does not hold 150 people, so no matter what people say, walk-ons are not going to be treated the same. Furthermore, the NCAA restricts how many players can practice before the season begins, so (spoiler alert) they aren't to have a bunch of walk-ons practicing while the scholarship guys drink soda at the student union. Limits also exist for away game rosters, etc.

Personally, I would not say walk-ons are equal to scholarship players, only that they will be treated fairly and have a chance to play if they earn it. Most will not earn it, and either quit the team, or get their first game snap in the last minute of Senior Day.
