I’m of the thought that Dayton’s role in life (sadly) has been predetermined to be Dylan’s pal and cheerleader. Uncle served that role while at NU, now Dayton who was a QB on a undefeated Buford team, can only allow himself to placed as a walkon TE at Oregon vs venturing out on his own as a possible QB at lower level FCS team. Good luck.

I agree with this. Sad state for Dayton, really - living in the shadow like that. He will be a practice dummy and hopefully get a degree out of the deal.

And we were going to spend a scholarship and NIL money on him just to appease the Raiola family? At least Rhule did one thing right by cutting them all loose.
Multiple high schools attended, multiple college commitments before enrolling...should have been a red flag for any football coach.

Crediting MR is laughable.

I hope Dayton does well there. He was never going to be a QB at a major school. And I’m not going to put him down because their family is very close and they want to do things together. I wish more families in America were doing that.

Nebraska’s lack of success since Dylan came to Lincoln can’t all be laid at his feet. There were more than a handful of other issues every year he was here.

I wish Dylan and Dayton success in their careers. Just not on the field versus Nebraska.

1. Dude looks about 5"10 standing next to his brother and uncles. My best friend is 6'6 and he towered over Dylan standing next to him.
2. This makes me think that Dylan's options were much more limited than I thought. By virtue of being a Top10 team, Oregon was able to get the Raiola family to accept Dylan coming in as a #2 and have Dayton walk on.
3. A likely scenario in the Raiolas being encouraged to look elsewhere could be that they wanted more for both kids because we sucked, and that alone made it easier for the program to cut ties.
4. Teammates still say they have positive communications with Dylan, so good luck to him until he plays against us on the field.

Well, you, for one:
IF it was a package deal with the Raiolas, I’d rather have both of them instead of just Jett 🤷‍♂️
...almost everyone is OK with it, as they should be.

Lets say this is true. I'm glad. I'm glad we offered Dayton if it makes Dylan happy. Are you? ..kinda seems like you have a problem with it.

Agreed! Too many people look at national ratings or what a kid's measurables are when they are a HS junior. This kid has talent and he cares A LOT about playing for the Big Red and comes from a family that lives football. He's going to work his ***. This is a talented, scholarship QB recruit with the mentality of a walk-on from central Nebraska.

He plays for a top 10 national HS . He plays with a team of p4 players. Winning this award is not like when you won the award weekly when you played on your special Ed rec team.

A lot of assumptions in this post. Having TJ then Trae in 27. This worked out perfectly. And you don’t know if they would have gotten someone more coveted. You can tell you just pay attention to stars. Dayton is now balling out at a very good highschool and showing a great arm with better mobility than DR.

One could make the argument that he would also be more highly recruited if he wasn't rock solid to NU. Looks like he's grown some over the last year. It's early but his completion % looks to be up. Clearly has a strong arm.

This is correct. The offer to Dayton was a stretch at the time if you were only looking at Dayton himself and his measurables. It made more sense once you considered that it helped to solidify Dylan. We would not have offered him at that time without that connection.

Could we have gotten someone better instead? I feel like probably. Dayton has grown and is less of a stretch now than he was at the time offer. And in this case, I am not sure getting a somewhat better QB in the 2026 class would help the team. Dayton has the ability to keep Dylan here and not market himself for NIL offers. The QB room will be stable for several years because Dayton is a part of it, even if he’s only an average QB.

Dayton will get a legitimate chance to develop and compete for playing time. If he can beat out TJ and Trae, he will have earned it.

When you’re offering a 16-17 year old you HAVE to try to project what they’ll develop in to. We have the evidence with Dylan to make a reasonable projection of Dayton. Dayton is a high floor low risk kid that we would have been foolish to not offer.

The amount of posters here who went to bat over and over for Dayton’s recruitment will never be forgotten

absolute pigeons
Rhule having Kyle McCord on campus ready to sign in spring 24 and the Raiolas pulling their power play the same day changed the trajectory of the program. Ever since it's been about keeping them happy up until the USC game in 25. Nebraska probably wins eight games or more in 24 with McCord and they have Kaelin and Lateef on the roster in spring 25. I assume they look at a transfer quarterback also but not everything would be revolving around one family and trying to keep them happy, especially after they shopped Dylan in the 24 off season. Retaining the uncle, giving the sister a recruiting office job, giving Dayton a pity party scholarship in 26 and eliminating any chance of recruiting a real quarterback in this class.

Zero.

And he has the same number of ranked wins as dyldo.
If comparing little Raiola to Jett.. one just won the HS national title the other just beat the mighty titans of Papio South by 49.. who knows how either pan out in college, clearly he was always a packaged deal with Dylan..

i'm not delusional enough to believe that Kyle McCord would've been successful at a Matt Rhule-led team.

The program's battery died when when Trev hired Rhule. Dannen threw the charger in the pool when he signed him to the extension.

Better luck in 2028.

I probably would've enjoyed Dylan’s time more if he was a 3-star recruit, didn’t have an uncle as a coach, and did not have a younger brother. This family situation is messed up and makes me so glad they are all gone (although I wouldn’t mind having Dylan in a program without dad, uncle, brother, as long as he has to compete for the job).

Seeing Dayton tag along with his brother again makes me chuckle. The 6’3’’ thing make me laugh out loud. Embarrassing for little brother if you ask me.

Rhule sold part of his soul to that family and it hurt the program.. 2 years ago, I wish we had gotten McCord, a new O-line Coach, and no input from the Raiola peanut gallery for the last two years. I couldn’t predict what would happen with this family or what Dylan would do on the field, but good heavens… I could see a mile away that uncle Donovan was a horrible coach and not worth the price of getting the recruit.

Ok. Now do where we thought he was going to be a starting QB at NU. I didn’t see a lot of cartwheels being turned over Dayton’s recruitment back then. I saw a whole lot of “meh”.

So now we have a reset with multiple QBs who have starting experience. The QB competition should be interesting.

Problem is at least one of the guys who Kong is talking about wouldn't even admit that. It's one thing to say it was the case and u understand that in order to get Dylan you had to take Dayton. But this particular poster doubled down on the "Dayton is a legit offer" and their was no nepotism lol. His name rhymes with...lol
