It appears we have a split on the board about actually wanting to see us lose a game and whether or not you are a so called "good fan" for wanting this. I am just curious how big that split is.

I can't pull for State to lose, but as long as Croom is still running the show I expect us to lose. My expectations are gone for improvement, wins, bowl games, etc. Croom has driven me to the point of just not caring anymore.</p>

You're a batch of wasted protein if you root for your team to lose at any time. That is not a fan. You are a complete prick if you actually root against your team for any reason. What a load of dung you people are.

is someone who roots for his team to limp to a 4-8 record this season and keep a coach who wins 4 games per year on average. The sooner we can get a competent coach the better MSU football will be.

Everyone in the world knows Croom sucks. The idiot is gonna get fired. Winning against MTSU is not gonna save his job. However, losing to MTSU is gonna make our players who work their *** off feel like crap. You root for the players. Not the damn coach. Greg Byrne is competent to know that Croom is a jackass without having to see us lose to another crappy team. Croom gets fired, but the players don't. Cheer wasted batches, cheer!!

I think the first and last answers are perfectly valid.

No fan should actively root against his own team. However, if meaningless short term gains must be sacrificed for the sake of the program as a whole in the long term, then so be it.

I am not going against what you are saying. I actually understand completely where you are coming from but I simply disagree. I have a question about one of your statements:

You are a complete prick if you actually root against your team for any reason.
If Byrne were to come out on Friday morning to the press and state that Croom's job will be terminated if we lose the game on Saturday, would this be reason enough for you to hope it happens?

I also hate people who call themselves fans of a team and then act like douche-bags when that team sucks. You're either a fan or just a spectator. Most of you who want us to lose are spectators and should never call yourself a fan just when it suits you.

had at least someone not like the possible responses to choose. i didn't exactly want to put up a poll to see what the answers to an upcoming poll would be.

i should have put in the body of the post that "i know not all of these answers will satisfy all of you"</p>

The longer Crxxm has been our coach, the more I've turned from a fan to a spectator. Actually, that's not completely true. I generally can't stomach watching what that SOB puts on the field.

Not only would I root for us to lose, I would also go and make love to all four of my supermodel girlfriends before they served up my dinner of the finest sushi and kobe beef and I watched the game on my 50 inch HD flat screen in my jacuzzi pool in my jumbo jet on the way to my beach house on an undisclosed private island in the pacific. Dreams and reality are two separate things.

call it a dream all you want. make fun of me for asking all you want. that is fine by me. but you sir are a closet spectator who just hasn't gotten to the point of apathy that some of the others have gotten to. i enjoy seeing it when people like yourself call the rest of us pieces of **** from your high and mighty totem poll, yet when given a scenario that suits your fantastic standards you change your mind.

have fun spectating at the game on saturday.</p>

The powers that be, the ones with the money, they have already made their decision. They know how much Croom sucks. They know the level of his incompetencies. Rooting for us to lose just makes no sense to me as a fan. I can see not caring, or not rooting at all, but to actively root against your own team? That is just sorry.

You have just lost all credibility with me. If it's not at least 60 inches, why bother? Just Damn! Also, the supermodels? Great, you keep your 6'3 85lb balemic (sp?). Playboy bunnies are the only way to go. They actually have breasts among many other things. Damn man! Damn!

You asked me a dream scenario. I am not making fun of your question. Like GB would actually make that announcement. And believe me, I have reached apathy with State so many times over the past 4 decades that I can do this stint on my head. Croom is going to be leaving us soon enough. Rooting against your team is not going to change that.

There is no way he is gonna get more then 1 or 2 more wins this season and I just don't think that is gonna cut it for him.

i don't completely believe without question that Croom is going to be gone. I like Byrne and I am excited about where he APPEARS to be taking the athletic department but I don't have blind faith that he is going to fire Croom. I think a lot of things have to happen for us to get rid of him this year. One of those things is us losing football games, especially the games that we are supposed to win. We only had three OOC games this year that we're supposed to win and we are one for two right now. If we were one for three then I would be much more confident about the firing happening now. I simply haven't gotten to the point where I absolutely believe he will be gone. You have.

Calling the rest of the people like me pieces of dung, ****, wastes of whatever, and whatever else crap you through out there is simply ********.

That is why I painted what you called a dream scenario to show you that even you could be in a situation that would warrant you not minding if the team were to get beaten..or even rooting for it to happen.

Now, will I be out there with blue on? No. I'll be at home. I won't be watching on ESPNU. I won't be listening online. I will simply read the news or the Pack later and will be glad to see that Croom effed it up or worried that he won't be gone next year because he beat a crappy team at home.

if Crxxms wins 3 or less, he be gone. But if he manages to make it to 4-5, then he has the chance to stay provided he makes changes...and that is why most of us are willing to take Saturday's loss for the long term good of the program

Well, let me say this: It depends on whether Croom would be fired immediately after the season or whether losing to MTSU means that he would be fired after the game. If so, I don't see much benefit to us if he's fired after this game.

Now, I'll say this: No I will not root against State on Sat. That said, I have reached the point of apathy. I was at the UT game and I was not all that upset about the loss. At the same time, I'm certainly not happy about it, but I was just kind of happy to be there with friends and to be in the Smokey Mountains. The game just didn't mean all that much to me one way or the other. To me, that is not a good thing. I want to care about MSU football again. I'm just at the point where I feel helpless in this trainwreck and that there's nothing that I can really do at this point besides hope that Croom either leaves or has a revelation that he needs a competent OC and to leave the OC alone.

that has Crxxms fired at the end of the year? How will rooting against MSU help if that's your belief?

And I think several people are getting hung up here on "rooting against your team." If a MTSU db intercepts a pass from Lee and you start shouting "take it to the house" and "go! go! go!" then jump for joy and pump your fist for an MTSU td, then yeah, I'd have to agree, you suck.

I'm just not wired to be able to pull against State. If it evern gets to that point, I'll just quit college sports altogether.

We have 3 home games remaining: MTSU, Kentucky and Arkansas. None of those schools will bring many fans. If we draw 90,000 (actual) total for those games, Crxxm will be gone.

As for the issue of actively rooting for MTSU, I handle that problem by not watching or listening to the game.

I am not saying I think people should be packing out the stadium and cheering. All I am saying is that you are not a worthy fan if you are cheering for the other team to beat you. I apologize for calling people pieces of **** and wastes of baby batter.

I think this game could be the turning point. Lose this one and he is gone. (so I believe in a silver lining if we lose)

Stansfield thinks he is gone anyways. (so there is no silver lining because he is gone anyways)

Others think he is here regardless. (so there is no silver lining because he is here to stay)

It is all a matter of what you think this game means in the grand scheme of things. But instead we have folks calling others non-fans like this is damn genespage because they believe differently about the significance. I simply wanted to know where everyone stood. No big deal.

Anyways... I don't think I could truly sit there and "root" for the other team. But I sure as hell could be angry we lost but happy about it at the same time come Sunday morning because I think it can be the end of the Croom era. Each to his own I guess.</p>

If Croom is being bought out by people with money that means that these people are smart enough to see that he is totally incompetent. Most people with that much money to give away are smarter then the average bear. There is nothing Croom can do to change the fact that he is a buffoon as a head coach in the SEC. He can try to pull crap out of his *** like putting Pegues on offense, but that will just show how much more of an idiot he is. He may fool the common jack-*** with that kind of bs smoke and mirrors, but to the people that matter, the people with money, they know he has no business being a HC in the SEC. Croom is gone, no matter what. Rejoice!

if we are 2-6 by sunday then I will be almost 100% on board with your assessment because there is no way in hell he wins out and gets to 6-6.

I would have never thought that MTSU was a "must win" for our football team no matter the situation. Jesus tapdancin Christ that is retarded.

I am saying the Egg Bowl because that game is always a toss up, but the way they have been playing I don't see us beating Ole Miss. I also don't see us having a snowball's chance in hell beating Kentucky, Arkansas, and especially Bama. I don't think GB has any problem pulling the trigger at 4-8, especially with the money to back him up and no worry of any negative media backlash.

at the egg bowl. therein lies my problem. i think 4 is the magic number that could get byrne to hesitate. just my opinion of course. so for me if this weekend goes down the ******* then i think there is little if any chance to get to 4 wins.

I know it's far fetched and highly unlikely, but what if we make a bowl game this year?
Are we going to boycott the bowl game?
If you want MSU to lose then go root for Ole Miss or Bama.
I want to win and go to a bowl game.
Arkansas and Kentucky are at home. that =winnable.

Would you sacrifice a bowl game for "long term success"? Wait thats right we aren't going to a bowl game because we are going to lose to Middle Tenn. State. My bad.

I would never root for us to lose; however, I have gotten to the point that it doesn't matter a whole lot to me one way or the other. The situation is totally hopeless with this current coaching staff in place. All the cries to fire Woody, as if that alone will do one speck of good, are insane. A total house cleaning is needed and until that happens I just can't muster much interest in how these remaining games turn out.

.....point in the season. Crxxms has his players brainwashed into believing they're on the right track and they will fight hard to make sure they win this game and keep Crxxms in good standing with the sheep fan base.

This game could very well be a blowout, so get ready for the postcard and the new raise/contract extension for Crxxms.
