When is the last time that happened?

The defense is always supposed to be ahead of the offense at this point. At least that is what we've been told.

What's going on here?

Credit a lot of it to sweet play calling, especially around the goal line. Kyle love had some good pushes through the line on defense, but the highlight was definitely relf ripping off a 60 yard run on the option.

Hopefully the Dixon crash into a wall in the middle play for short yardage is thrown out of the playbook.

We did a Tyson Lee option to the right side with Dixon, but Christian came from the other side and took the pitch on a reverse to the other side. The defense had no chance. They crashed the correct side, but that reverse killed them. The best part was that when the offense scored, the defense had to run, and all of the coaches, including Dan Mullen, lined up to run sprints. Torbush, Smith, all of them ran. It was great. Dixon looked great today, and the offensive line was terrific. QB's struggled a little bit. Guys that stood out to me today were Marcus Green, Anthony Dixon, O'Neal Oilder, Delmon Robinson, Chris White, and Kyle Love. Cam Lawrence had a decent day too. Tay Bowser had a horrible day. Pernell struggled a little. Great practice. Very intense and very enthusiastic.

Surprisingly enough, no golf cart. Mullen did about as much running around as the team did. They did one on one blocking drills along the sideline and had the team sectioned off by positions. They would do one blocking drill per section, then move to the next one. Mullen would watch one, then he and the rest of the coaching staff would sprint to the next set of players and watch that one. Then he would sprint down to the next set and watch them. It was great. His running around built the hype with the players on each blocking drill and it ended up becoming one big circle of players around the 2 guys going one on one. If the guy in maroon won the battle, all of the guys in maroon jerseys would go slap the guy and jump around him. The white jerseys would do the same if the guy in white won. There was alot of enthusiasm and alot of guys that were really getting into it. Mullen is a tremendous motivator, and he does it without having to say a word. His actions rub off on the coaches and the players.

THAT boys, is called football practice. Like most teams do it.

Croom has ruined most of the young fan base. They have no clue how most teams are run.

he told me that Mullen is planning to put Lee in the Shotgun 99% of the time and that all of the offensive coaches could not understand how a perceived SEC coach could put a guy the size of Lee under the center. Also, they are prepared to go with Lee for the long haul and will red shirt Russell to give him a full year to learn the playbook and work on fundamentals. He also told me that there is only one real SEC type WR on the roster and McCrae is it. Also said that Arceto Clark is a Delta State type of player at best! Just makes you think how stupid the kid from ECCC was getting caught with dope in his truck. Could have probably gotten some play time early and that the HC is very high on Dixon. He finished by telling me that the talent Croom left on both sides is very lacking and that the Dogs are probably in for a long year this season.

You're not supposed to "trick" your opponent. It's morally reprehensible. A fine Christian man like Sylvester would never resort to such devilish things.

I disagree that McRae is the only SEC caliber WR on the team. After what I saw from O'Neal today, he is SEC caliber, along with Delmon Robinson who I think is an SEC caliber slot receiver. I think this team is definintely not a great team, but I do think from what I saw today that if you put our team talent this year against what we had last year, I think we will be stronger, faster, and much smarter than last years team. I liked what I saw today.

I don't doubt what you saw today, but I'm skeptical on O'neal. I want to see him do it on game day. I hope that he will prove me wrong.

I'll give you Delmon Robinson. I think he's is a talent that's going to surprise some people.

I think he definitely has SEC talent, but we do need to see him in action first. He has alot of upside, so I think he could be very good on the outside. He had great hands today and he is gonna be very hard to cover because of how quickly he can get to top speed and be in full stride.

...and I am editing this so I add a few things. I shared the same general feelings about all three practices. Someone made a post about the players loving the new staff and Coach Mullen. This is very obvious. They are trying much harder and the practices are intense and VERY VOCAL! In one on ones, when one player would do well, everyone crowded around and yelled and cheered his performance. All practice long, the players were cheering each other everytime someone did well. The goal line offense drills were especially very spirited. When something good happened, whether offense or defense, the backups cheered loudly. The offense went wild when Ducre' went over for the TD, which allowed the offense to "win" the scrimmage and escape all the running after practice. Now some observations:

1. Delmon Robinson tweaked his right hamstring going for a pass. I didn't see him the rest of the day on offense. He already had his right thigh wrapped.

2. Addison Lawrence had a slight bruise or something of the left knee, and hobbled off during contact drills. He was off about 15 minutes, then came back on later on in the practice. He is also now the #1 snapper.

3. Brandon McRae continues to ride the exercise bike when there is any contact. Robert Elliot does as well.

4. Chris Relf did a lot better, including running straight up the middle for a 50 yard TD. He also got outside containment a couple of times for some nice running gainers, one about 20 yards. I think he still has problems throwing on the run, but his passing was much better today. Cam Lawrence took snaps and looked sharp in 7 on 7's, but didn't get snaps in the 11 on 11 controlled scrimmage.

5. Tyson Lee is still head and shoulders above the other QB's. I think both Relf and Cameron Lawrence are getting better though.

6. Both Ducre' and Dixon stood out at RB. Stallworth was somewhat quieter than he was yesterday. Both Dixon and Ducre' had some excellent power runs on the goalline offense.

7. The offensive line still has some problems with pass protection. The defense, especially McPhee and Kyle Love harassed them. Kyle Love had a very good day, and he is now #1 at right defensive tackle, and McPhee #1 at LT. They work McPhee at both LT and LE depending on down and distance.

8. Leon Berry continues to impress. Delmon also impressed until he tweaked his right thigh in the neighborhood of his hammy.

9. Sean Brauchle has a strong accurate leg. With a 10 mph wind in his face, he came up 2 yards short of the crossbar on a 57 yard attempt. He was drilling 40 yard FG's routinely.

10. I think everyone was really glad to be in pads. The players are really cheering each other. The esprit de corps seems really high. Coach Mullen is actively engaged in all the activities on the field and runs the show, especially on offense. He applaudes good things when he sees them, and corrects problems on the spot. I have a friend who is a barber and cuts a lot of the players' hair, and he said Christian Ducre, Charles Mitchell, and several others came into his shop after the scrimmage. He says they are REALLY glad he is here.

Maybe when our freshman get on campus they will feel the same and keep interests in our program around the state very high.
