Wards is a small town chain. Starkville might be the biggest city with one if you were to open it (Laurel is bigger if you count the whole county). Lot more competition than the existing locations.

Did not know there was still one there. Wards started in Hattiesburg I believe. Started as a Frostop franchise, which is a Louisiana chain. The guy in Hattiesburg just started his own restaurant with all the Frostop recipes. I’ve eaten at the one in Baton Rouge. Kind of surprising that place is still open.

My son just told me he & some other guys at State were talking about it the other day & thinks it'd do well. He has a couple friends who'll come visit 3 hours away just to eat Wards.

For what it’s worth I think the one in Laurel dies pretty well.

Find a spot east of campus convenient for students to approach with minimal law enforcement entanglements.

To this day, I can't believe Mr. Cook out east of campus in the 80-90s couldn't survive.

The location alone should have made bank from 12AM drunks and the munchies.

That said, dont change the menu. When I conjure the courage to visit family in Jones County, I always pick up chili cheese burgers and dogs. The Ellisvile location is consistently better than North Laurel.

I tried it once this past spring…think it was Laurel…threw most of it out after a few bites & went hungry.

They make their own root beer at each location. Worth a stop if I’m near one but won’t go out of my way to find one.

There is a Ward's in prentiss where my mom's family owns a bunch of land where grew up hunting in HS and college....I was down there about 3 weeks ago and drove by the Ward's and thought about how awesome it was after a morning hunt.....then I thought, I wouldn't eat that **** now if it were free and I was starving....

I eat at Buddy's Frostop in Destrehan from time to time. Didn't care for it much when I moved down but in 3 yrs it's grown on me. Really good crinkle cut fries.

My dream is to open a very causal, laid back parent's bar in the District. I'm never going to do it, but either Blutos or Uno Mas would be a great location.

I don’t think many brands illicit much excitement that immediately translates to guaranteed profitable business. But you can open literally anything and if the people really care about doing a good job, you immediately jump in the top 20% of restaurant in any MS town and your chance of surviving & being profitable go up.

In short, throwing up a Ward’s will excite the cult following, but making it or not will 100% depend on staffing/service, not a brand.

I think it would do great. If located strategically and managed properly, I think most any fast food establishment would do well in Starkville. I'm fascinated with fast food operations / systems, but have no experience in it what-so-ever....so I could be wrong.

I lived in 3 Pine Belt towns that had s Ward's and was a salesman that traveled through multiple towns with Wards for 10 years, and, I've eaten at a Wards once. That was all it took, sorry I don't see the appeal. None of my family cared for it either and never requested it

You can get an absolute fire bologna biscuit at every gas station between Corinth and Green County, but I do miss Wards frosted root beer mugs in Tupelo and Amory.
