- from when Orgeron went for it 4th and 1...except that he got it, went forward and won the game?<div>

but we got it and scored a TD on the drive. Like you said, if you get it - everything is good.

...I thought it was a terrible decision, but it worked. It was the decision of the game. If he's short, thought, we would've had a whole heap of trouble.

that we didnt line Relf up under center and run it. WAY to risky out of the shotgun.

/But we got it so....

was Ole Miss had the lead and their defense was stopping, er....we had McCorvey.

And Ole Miss was on the road- so you had the crowd factor as well.

But I will say I disagree- I thought it was a great call by Dan. And had we not gotten it, I would not have criticized him. Probably would have criticized the players, though.

Also, I might be wrong about this, but I think we were a lot closer to the first down marker than Ole Miss was on their fateful 4th down call. Thus, higher percentage of us converting if I'm correct.

Edit to say- I'm a dubmass. We had the lead and were stopping Georgia to. I got home around 2 and had to be at work at 7 AM, so I'll blame it on sleep deprivation.

Just like it was the right call when the Patriots tried it a couple years ago. Whether or not it ends up working is irrelevant to whether it was the right call at the time without hindsight. It's simple probability.

because Georgia scored after stopping us, you really wouldn't have blamed Mullen? LSU 2009 disagrees.

I liked the call. I'm surprised there are so many who didn't.

It was nothing like Orgeron. Ole Miss had that game won...they had a sizable lead, and we were Croomin' it up, going nowhere fast. They had no reason to do anything to give us life, but that failed conversion really turned the momentum in our favor.

other than hindsight. We made it and it seems to be the right call. Had we not made it, we probably would say it was the wrong call. Only the coaches that are in the game and knowing the ebb and flow know rather it was truly the right call. Obviously $%* felt it was the right call at the time. Next week under similar circumstances, he may make a different call on how the flow is going.

Dunno!

Mullen is desperate for somebody, in this young season, to step up and make a game-changing type play. We'd already 17ed several up already in the first three quarters. I saw that call as him simply challenging his team, or somebody, to make a damn difference. I was on the fence about it but I understood. The game was still undecided and Mullen called out his team, and they responsded.

Orgeron? I have no idea still. That game was won. It was in the bag. State hadn't done jack all day and wasn't going to. O punts and the game is over.

Two completely different scenarios.

the we lose and Mullen sucks. Be we are a team that has to take risks like this.

But it worked so I was all like "Hey everybody, we're all going to get laid!"

In fact, I told the guy next to me that we should go for it, and if we didn't get it, I wouldn't say a word about it.

Now, I would have gone apeshit had Dan tried a gadget play and not gotten it. He ran a conservative play, and lo and behold it worked.

With LSU, I was mad about the play selection on the 1 yard line as much as anything. Had Dan run it up the middle with AD twice and we had not gotten it, I actually would have been pissed at the o-line.

And let's be honest- Dan has made some really questionable calls especially this year.

In both cases, MSU's line had somewhat taken over control of the game (at the line).
In the second half of the Ga. game, think we had the ball over 19 min.
Watching the replay, one of the announcers noted (late in the game)...it's tough when you know what is coming, and can't stop it.(paraphrased)
We had worn them down.

That's the biggest difference. O punts, and we McCorvey it up. We punt, we should have good field position and we'd been keeping UGA out of the endzone all day, but UGA had had some good drives. Only bad field position and mistakes on their part had really kept them out of the end zone.

I think it's close enough that eitherway it would have been defensible, but at some point, you have to make plays. We don't have a great playmaker, but we have an O-line that we thought was going to be good, a 245 lb qb that does a good job of falling forward when he runs, and a RB that while not great, was a JUCO all american and also does a good job of trying to push after getting hit. Ithink it was a good call. In general, I'd like to be a team that tries to make a play to win the game. Hard to do with our current talent level, but when it's a close call like that, I like being aggressive.

I agree completely. While at the time I was a nervous wreck about it, I'm glad we finally have a coach that plays to win instead of just playing not to lose...
