The automatic loss of down portion of OPI was removed by the NFHS this year. its now 15 yards and replay the down if accepted.
DPI is now 15 yards, without automatic first down.
Sounds like the crew of officials misapplied the rule. Andthat Bobby Hall had a legitimate right to seek them out, althoughh not in a violent way
Any 6packers at the game?

I think high school rules don't allow for an untimed play, if time expires and a penalty on the offense is accepted. Some quirk about not rewarding the offense by giving them an extra play.

I think....

You only play an untimed down on a defensive penalty. You don't on an offensive penalty. If it had been defensive pass interference (and he hadn't caught the ball), they would have played an untimed down.

that is a common fallacy. A game.cannot end on an accepted live ball foul that does not carry a LOD. An untimed down should have been allowed.

So by this logic, if its the last play of the game and you're not about to score, you should hit somebody in the back or grab a facemask to get a penalty so you'll have another chance to score. That makes no sense. I don't know any level of football that allows an untimed down after an offensive penalty. If that were the case, you'd be rewarding the offense for committing a penalty with another play and another chance to score.

Check the Mississippi high school rules. Like I said, it's a quirk. I think that's the rule though.

Ok I'm a MAIS ref of 17 years, and (dont have my rule book with me) my crew and I would have replayed the down after the yardage markoff.

That did not appear to be from the NFHS official rule book is why I question it, is all. 3 other officials I have spoken to today-2 from MAIS 1 from mhsaa-agree with me.

Its common freaking sense. Why would the team that got penalized get more time? You should be fired if you don't have the logic to figure that out. The call may have been terrible, but the refs handled it correctly, and I haven't heard one argument that makes a case for why they did the wrong thing.
