Was there mass outrage and panic at LSU when they replaced Alex Box Stadium?

I'm just curious, because they have multiple national championships in baseball and plenty of tradition to boot, and I don't remember hearing wind of Tiger Nation being up in arms that their baseball stadium was replaced.

Yet we go off the rails when it's suggested that DNF be replaced. I just don't get it.

The old Box didn't have a Left Field Lounge.

No one is suggesting that LFL be replaced. It's been stated by Scott in every interview that it's one of the most important traditions at MSU and he intends to preserve it...

But to answer the original question -- yes, they freaked the hell out. LSU fans do that. About everything. Totally lost their minds about the intimidator until they "replaced" it in the new stadium. There as much gnashing of teeth -- that suddenly basically went away the first day they stepped foot in the new venue...

I was talking to a few LSU folks about this

at the Wally Pontiff Jr. game this Tuesday.

They had quite a few people that were upset about losing the sentimental value that went with the old Box. I know some people who were able to get their season ticket chairs from the old structure or other bricks/scraps as mementos. Not sure if they did that for all season ticket holders or just for the more involved families. Whatever the case, none of them are complaining now.

I don't think people care about the grandstand. It's the LFL to make sure that stays intact in some capacity.

At LSU - they really didn't have anything special except that intimidator billboard.

I didn't think sarkastriks were necessary. But the LFL is the ONLY thing of value at DNF - and it's not even part of the main structure.

Exactly.

And it's already been promised to be preserved. Maybe not identically -- but preserved...

LSU won a National Title in their first year at new Alex Box, so I'm guessing many of those complaints didn't last long.

The difference between the situation with the old Alex Box is that it had no redeeming qualities. It was never nice and had nothing as unique as the LFL.

Dudy Noble itself has nothing nice or unique either.

LFL is an entirely different entity from the stadium. No one is advocating a "new" LFL. We want everything in front of the foul poles fixed -- and for goodness sakes a full-fledged inclusive student section above the hill in right...

Correct me if wrong ...

I don't think people care about the grandstand. It's the LFL to make sure that stays intact in some capacity.

But isn't the new 'Alex Box' built at a different location than the old 'Box?' Thinking they were building the 'new' before dismantling the 'old.'

I think the major obstacle that State faces is demolishing Dudy Noble and rebuilding before the season starts in Feb, roughly 7/8 months. Not a long tome to both demolish and rebuild.

When Dudy was being built, State played in Redbird park in Columbus. Don't think that would work in todays CBB.**

thoughts?

yes

The new was being built in the lot next door while they still played in the old.

And yes, schedule would be a concern if we were to demo and rebuild at the same location in one offseason. I'd like to think if we went that route then we should be able to get the bulk of the structure in and have it serviceable for the next season, of course a lot of the finishing touches would be missing that first season if we went that route.

If we were to build a new stadium, what should the seating capacity be ?

We've got about 4300 total chairbacks as of today -- which = about 7300 total "seats" as of today inside the stadium(Bleachers are 1500 seats each)

Need 6k-6500ish chairbacks for season ticket purposes... with alot of SRO and expandability behind the chairbacks.

The beauty of open concourses are the bleachers can be added to them in a hurry for big weekends...and there is alot of room for people in general -- while as currently configured, almost all of the "room" in Dudy Noble is behind the fences. Open concourses change that dynamic a bit...

Texas A&M has the premiere baseball stadium in the nation if you ask me. I would love to see us do something that could one up these pictures:

Love that deck. Seems like it would be a great place to sit.

The pundits are always harping on LSU's stadium, but Alex Box doesn't hold a candle to this beauty. The outside of the stadium is almost more beautiful than the inside if you ask me. It has a nice Gothic look to it, almost like a Roman Catholic church. I think bricking up our new stadium (if we ever build one) in the same style as this would match the rest of campus perfectly.

Plenty we can do with the existing infrastructure.

My 10 cents anyway. We have a good, solid structure. A good architect can do a lot with what is in place, and even make it unrecognizable. I'm confident we can do something special with a lot of what is already there. Did you ever go to the old box? It was a ********...

Because most people who attended those games at the old Box never went to school at LSU. They are just NASCAR-types who don't have anything else to do in Red Stick so they go to baseball games.

great stadium with absolutely beautiful grandstands, BUT that view might be the worst in all of college baseball.

I agree. To be honest though, our outfield view isn't the best either with our random assortment of buildings and pine trees. I think Rice has one of the best outfield views with the Houston skyline. Not a bad looking stadium either.
